share us on:

In this lesson, young artists learn how to draw a helicopter step-by-step, starting with the body and tail, followed by the blades, windows, and landing skids. The lesson emphasizes the fun of drawing and encourages creativity by allowing children to color their helicopters in any colors they choose. By the end, students are motivated to continue practicing their drawing skills and explore more artistic creations.
  1. What shape did we draw first to make the helicopter’s body?
  2. What do the spinning blades on top of the helicopter help it do?
  3. What colors can you use to make your helicopter look special?

Let’s Draw a Helicopter!

Hey there, little artist! Are you ready to have some fun and learn how to draw a helicopter? Let’s get started and make something amazing together!

What is a Helicopter?

A helicopter is a special kind of flying machine. It has big spinning blades on top that help it fly up, down, and even sideways! Helicopters can go places that other airplanes can’t, like landing on rooftops or in small spaces.

Gather Your Drawing Tools

Before we start drawing, let’s make sure we have everything we need:

  • A piece of paper
  • A pencil or crayon
  • Some colorful markers or crayons

Step-by-Step Drawing Guide

Step 1: Draw the Body

Let’s start by drawing the body of the helicopter. Make a big oval shape in the middle of your paper. This will be the main part of the helicopter where people sit.

Step 2: Add the Tail

Next, draw a long, thin rectangle coming out from the back of the oval. This is the helicopter’s tail, and it helps the helicopter stay balanced while flying.

Step 3: Draw the Blades

Now, let’s draw the helicopter’s blades! On top of the oval, draw two long, thin rectangles crossing each other like a big “X.” These are the blades that spin around and help the helicopter fly.

Step 4: Add the Windows

Draw some small squares or rectangles on the oval to make windows. This is where the pilot and passengers can look out and see the sky!

Step 5: Draw the Landing Skids

At the bottom of the oval, draw two curved lines that look like skis. These are the landing skids that help the helicopter land safely on the ground.

Time to Color!

Now that you have drawn your helicopter, it’s time to make it colorful! Use your markers or crayons to color the body, blades, and tail. You can use any colors you like. Maybe your helicopter is red, blue, or even rainbow-colored!

Great Job!

Wow, look at your amazing helicopter! You did a fantastic job. Drawing is so much fun, and you can practice to get even better. Maybe next time, you can draw a whole sky full of helicopters!

Keep practicing and have fun creating more cool drawings. You’re a great artist!

  • What do you think makes helicopters different from other flying machines like airplanes? Can you think of a place where a helicopter might be able to land but an airplane cannot?
  • Imagine you are flying in your helicopter. Where would you like to go, and what would you like to see from the sky? Why?
  • When you colored your helicopter, what colors did you choose and why? Do these colors remind you of anything special or make you feel a certain way?
  1. Helicopter Spotting Adventure: Next time you’re outside, look up at the sky and see if you can spot a real helicopter flying by. Notice how it moves differently from airplanes. Can you see the spinning blades? Talk with a friend or family member about where you think the helicopter might be going and why it might be flying there.

  2. Build a Helicopter Model: Use simple materials like paper, cardboard, or even building blocks to create a 3D model of a helicopter. Think about the different parts you learned to draw: the body, tail, blades, windows, and landing skids. Once you’ve built your model, pretend it’s flying to different places. Where will your helicopter go today?

  3. Helicopter Story Time: Imagine a day in the life of a helicopter. What adventures does it have? Does it rescue someone, deliver a package, or take people on a tour? Draw a picture or write a short story about your helicopter’s adventure. Share your story with your class or family and see what exciting tales they come up with too!
