How to Make Fun and Squishy Slime at Home!

Hey there! Are you ready to make some awesome slime? Squeaks and many of our friends have been asking about it, and today is the day! Making slime is super fun, and you can do it with just a few things you probably already have at home. Let’s get started!

What You’ll Need

First, gather these items:

  • A bowl
  • A measuring spoon
  • A stick or plastic spoon for mixing
  • A container to store your slime
  • A grown-up to help you

For the ingredients, you’ll need:

  • Regular school glue
  • Baking soda
  • Food coloring
  • Contact solution (make sure it has boric acid)

Remember, all these ingredients are safe to touch, but don’t eat them!

Let’s Make Slime!

Now for the fun part! Follow these steps to make your slime:

  1. Pour the glue into the bowl. This will make your slime sticky!
  2. Add one tablespoon of baking soda to the glue and mix until it’s completely dissolved.
  3. Add a few drops of food coloring and mix. Keep adding until you get the color you like. We chose fuchsia!
  4. Slowly add the contact solution, one teaspoon at a time, and stir. Watch as it starts to get goopy!
  5. Keep adding contact solution until the slime sticks to itself more than the bowl.
  6. Knead the slime with your hands until it’s just right. You can do this in the bowl or on a clean surface.

Why Is Slime So Special?

Slime is super cool because it acts like both a solid and a liquid! When you leave it alone, it spreads out like a liquid. But when you press or pull it, it becomes more solid. This happens because the tiny pieces in the glue, called molecules, get tangled up when you mix in the baking soda and contact solution.

Have Fun and Explore!

Keep playing with your slime to see what else you can discover. When you’re done, store it in a container so it doesn’t dry out. And don’t forget to wash your hands!

Did you make this slime? What did you learn? Ask a grown-up to help you leave a comment or send us an email at [email protected]. Have fun, and see you next time!

  • What was your favorite part about making slime, and why do you think it was so fun?
  • Have you ever seen something else that acts like both a solid and a liquid? Can you think of any examples?
  • If you could make slime in any color, what color would you choose and why?
  1. Slime Stretch Test: Take your slime and see how far you can stretch it before it breaks. Measure the length with a ruler or a measuring tape. Try this a few times and see if you can stretch it further each time. Think about what makes the slime stretch so much. Is it more like a solid or a liquid when you stretch it?

  2. Slime Shape Challenge: Use your slime to create different shapes. Can you make a ball, a snake, or a pancake? Notice how the slime changes shape easily. Discuss with a friend or a grown-up why the slime can change shapes so quickly. What happens if you leave it in one shape for a while?

  3. Slime Observation Journal: Over the next few days, observe your slime and write down any changes you notice. Does it get stickier, harder, or change color? Draw pictures of what your slime looks like each day. Think about why these changes might be happening. Is it because of the air, temperature, or something else?
