Hello, friends! How are you today? Did you have fun at school? Did you learn something new? That’s awesome! Did you read a book? If not, let’s read a story together! Today, we’re going to read “Little Bird’s New Word” by Jacob Grant. Are you ready? Let’s begin!
Once upon a time, Little Bird and his papa were flying high in the sky. Papa said, “Lunch is extra wiggly today!” But Little Bird didn’t know what “wiggly” meant. Little Bird loved learning new words, but sometimes, not all words are for little ones.
Little Bird was excited to use his new word. He thought his friends would like it too. But when he said it, Black Frog was surprised, Moose didn’t know what to say, and Fish and Ladybug were not happy. Turtle, Little Bird’s friend, looked sad and hid in his shell.
Little Bird felt bad. He wondered if his new word was not a nice one. He didn’t want to hurt his friends. Then, he heard Papa’s voice. Papa helped Little Bird understand that words can sometimes hurt feelings.
Little Bird knew what to do. He said, “I’m sorry, everyone. Very sorry.” Turtle liked this word much better, and they became best friends again. Saying “sorry” made everything better!
And that’s the story of “Little Bird’s New Word.” Remember, if you ever say a word that makes someone sad, it’s important to say “sorry.” Words are powerful, and we should use them kindly.
Thanks for joining us for story time! Don’t forget to read lots of books and have fun learning new things. See you next time! Bye!

“Little Bird’s New Word”
Have you ever been naughty and said a word you shouldn’t have? Well, make sure you don’t say it again, okay?
Little Bird and his papa were soaring high over the treetops. “Lunch is extra wiggly today,” said Papa. “That’s not a word for Little Bird.” Little Bird was always happy to learn new words. Sometimes, not all words are for kids.
A word for big birds! “I can’t wait to start using it!” Little Bird knew his friends would love the new word.
Hmm, I’m not so sure about that. Black Frog was startled, Moose was speechless, and Fish and Ladybug were not amused. Black and Little Bird’s friend Turtle looked hurt.
Turtle has gone back into his shell; he doesn’t like it at all. Little Bird didn’t know what to do. This is bad. Could this new word be bad? I’ve been using a bad word.
He hadn’t flown far when he heard Papa’s voice.
Little Bird means well; he’s learning that words can be hurtful. “I’m sorry, everyone. Very sorry.”
That was all Little Bird needed to hear. He knew just the word to make things right: “Sorry.”
Well, as my son says, “Sorry.” Turtle liked this word much better, and they became best friends again.
Oh dear! And that was “Little Bird’s New Word.” Now, if you’ve ever accidentally said a word you shouldn’t have, make sure you don’t say it again. It’s not meant for little kids.
