Hello, friends! How are you today? I hope you’re feeling super happy and have had some fun outside. Sunshine gives us something called vitamin D, which helps keep us smiling!
Are you ready to read a fun book with us? Today, we have a story called “Little Dragon and the New Baby” by Deborah Kunitz. Let’s dive in!
Once upon a time, there was a little dragon. One day, Mom and Dad had a big surprise for him. Do you like surprises? Little dragons sure do! But this surprise was a new baby brother or sister. Little Dragon wasn’t sure about sharing his room. He thought, “Hmm, do I really want company right now?”
Little Dragon had an idea to make things better, but Mom didn’t think it was a good one. But guess what? Someone got to play with bubbles, and that was fun!
Little Dragon started to think, “Maybe having a new baby around isn’t so bad after all.” Babies can be really cute!
Did you like the story of Little Dragon and the new baby? If you have a new brother or sister, it might seem a little scary at first, but it can be a lot of fun too!
We also have another story called “The Lovely Haze of Baby Days” by Lindsay Keller Matson and Frey Dangard. Let’s take a look!
This story is all about babies! Babies can be on the floor, in your hair, and everywhere! They make funny sounds and sometimes make a mess, but they are so cute!
Even when things get a little crazy, like when there’s a lot of laundry or when you’re tired, a baby’s smile can make everything better.
Taking care of a baby means making sure they are fed and happy. Sometimes, you might have to rock them to sleep or take them for a walk. Even when it’s hard, it’s all worth it because babies bring so much joy!
Do you remember when you were a baby? Those days can be tough, but they are also filled with love and happiness. If you have a baby brother or sister, remember that you’re not alone. Everyone has baby days!
Thank you for reading with us today! We hope you enjoyed the stories. If you want to read these books again, you can find them in the links below. Take care of yourself and your family, and we’ll see you next time!
Bye-bye!
Baby Observation Walk: Take a walk around your neighborhood or visit a park with your family. Look for families with babies or young children. Observe how they interact with their parents or siblings. What do you notice about how they communicate or play? Draw a picture of what you saw and share it with your class.
Role-Playing with Stuffed Animals: Use your stuffed animals or dolls to act out a scene from the story “Little Dragon and the New Baby.” Pretend one of your toys is the new baby and another is the Little Dragon. How does Little Dragon feel about the new baby? What can he do to help take care of the baby? Share your role-play with a friend or family member.
Family Interview: Ask your parents or guardians about when you were a baby. What was your favorite toy? Did you have a special blanket or stuffed animal? How did your family take care of you? Write down or draw a picture of what you learned and share it with your classmates.

The little dragon and the new baby: Mom and Dad had a big surprise for little dragon. Little dragons love surprises! Let me ask you, do you love surprises? Sometimes, maybe having a new brother or sister wouldn’t be so bad. But little dragon wasn’t so sure about sharing his room. He was definitely not in the mood for company right now. Little dragon felt like nothing could make this better. Then he had a great idea!
Mom didn’t think his idea was all that great, though. She was right. At least someone got to play with bubbles! Something was happening. Was it his fault? He hoped no one would notice.
Oh, they’re so cute! They were kind of cute. Maybe things won’t be okay after all. Maybe. And that was “Little Dragon and the New Baby.” Did you like that story? It was really cute! If you’ve ever had or are expecting a little sister or brother, it might seem scary, but let me tell you, it’s really fun—annoying sometimes, but more fun than annoying!

We have here “The Lovely Haze of Baby Days” by Lindsay Keller Matson and Frey Dangard. Let’s have a look!
Babies, babies everywhere on the floor and in my hair. Our rhythm beats the baby way. Most every night blurs into day. Blowouts, burping, high-pitched squealing, diapers mounting to the ceiling. Crawling, climbing, eating dirt—loads to wash; what’s one more shirt? Drooling, spit-up, pureed fruit, but oh my goodness, aren’t you cute?
Tummy time makes you so sad, and I need rest; I haven’t had any. I might have maybe lost my mind; it’s not an easy thing to find. I’m overwhelmed; my world’s a mess. How does your smile erase my stress?
Bottle, breast, or baby-led—all I care is that you’re fed. The swaddle snug, white noise is on; you might just nap with one more song. Walking, rocking, midnight drives; I’m desperate to see drowsy eyes. Perhaps it’s gas or maybe teething; our four feet sleep to watch you breathing.
The fridge is empty; lunch looks bleak. I haven’t showered yet this week. With yoga pants and dry shampoo, we’re off to brave the shopping zoo. The house is so full of baby stuff, yet somehow there’s not enough. The stroller won’t fit through the gate; you woke at five—how are we late?
Strangers acting nonchalant; they give advice and never want. So much mess, so many tears—the longest days, the shortest years. With sleepless nights and baby blues, thank goodness they are mamas too!
If babies, small or fully grown, in motherhood you’re not alone. I remember my baby days; those days were really rough, but they all pass, and it makes it all worthwhile in the end, right, mamas?
And that was “The Lovely Haze of Baby Days.” That brought back a lot of memories for me! If you’d like a copy of this book, the links are in the description below. Thank you so much for reading with us today!
