Welcome to Storytime!

Hello, friends! How are you today? Did you have fun at school and play outside in the sunshine? I hope you’re ready to enjoy a new story with us. Today, we’re reading a book called “Little Leo and the Perfect Flower” by Mrs. Mau. Let’s begin our adventure!

Leo’s Special Day

Leo woke up and heard some exciting noises downstairs. Something special was happening! He quickly got dressed and went to see. There was cake and presents in the living room, and Dad was blowing up balloons. It was Mom’s birthday! Leo decided he wanted to find the perfect gift for his perfect mom.

The Search for the Perfect Flower

Leo thought flowers would be a beautiful gift. The garden was full of daisies, tulips, and other colorful flowers. Maybe the perfect flower was hiding among them! Leo picked a daisy, but its petals weren’t even. He thought, “This won’t do for Mom,” and put it in his backpack, hoping to find a better one.

Exploring the Park

Leo hopped on his bicycle and rode to the park. He saw birds, mushrooms, and flowers along the path. He found a bright and colorful flower, but its petals were bent. Leo kept looking, hoping to find the perfect one.

Climbing the Hills

Leo thought the perfect flower might be on a hill. He climbed up, even though it was hard work. At the top, he found many flowers, but each one had something wrong. One had a petal too long, another had a missing petal. Leo felt sad because he couldn’t find the perfect flower for Mom.

A Sweet Surprise

Leo went home feeling a little down. He told his mom, “I’m sorry, Mom. I tried to find the perfect flower, but these are all I could find.” Mom smiled and said, “These flowers are perfect because you picked them for me. Any flowers you bring me are my perfect treasure.”

The End

Wasn’t Leo sweet? Have you ever picked flowers for someone you love? Maybe you can pick some pretty flowers for your mommy too!

  • What do you think makes a flower special or perfect? Can you think of a time when you found something special, even if it wasn’t perfect?
  • Leo wanted to give his mom a gift. Have you ever given someone a gift that you made or found yourself? How did it make you feel?
  • Leo explored different places to find the perfect flower. Where is your favorite place to explore, and what do you like to find there?
  1. Flower Hunt Adventure: Go on a mini adventure in your backyard or a nearby park with an adult. Look for different types of flowers. Can you find a daisy, a tulip, or any other colorful flower like Leo did? Try to notice the colors, shapes, and sizes of the flowers you find. Draw a picture of your favorite flower and share why you chose it.

  2. Perfect Flower Craft: Create your own “perfect flower” using craft materials like colored paper, scissors, glue, and markers. Think about what makes a flower special to you. Is it the color, the shape, or something else? Once you’ve made your flower, share it with a friend or family member and explain why it’s perfect to you.

  3. Thoughtful Questions: Discuss with a friend or family member: What makes something perfect to you? Is it always about how it looks, or is there something more? Can you think of a time when something wasn’t perfect but was still special? Share your thoughts and listen to theirs.

Hi everyone! Welcome back to the Storytime Family. How are you today? Did you learn lots of new things at school? Did you have time to play in the sunshine outside? I hope you’re ready to read a new book with us today. We have a book called “Little Leo and the Perfect Flower” by Mrs. Mau. Let’s get started, shall we?

Leo woke up and heard noises downstairs. Something important is happening! I better get dressed. There was cake in the living room and presents on the table. Dad was inflating a balloon. That’s right, it’s Mom’s birthday! The party is later, and I won’t be long. I’ll find the perfect gift for my perfect mom.

The world is filled with flowers already grown. In fact, the garden has plenty all on its own. What a beautiful gift for a beautiful mom! Daisies, tulips, and yarrow are all over the place. Maybe here’s where the perfect flower hides among the yellow, white, and red flowers.

What a fine daisy I’ve gathered! So why am I filled with doubt? Look closely at the petals; they aren’t evenly spread out. This wonky daisy won’t do. It’s not good enough for Mom. This one goes to the bottom of the backpack. Let’s hope better finds will come!

A bicycle can take you places—fields, hills, and great spots. It would certainly take Leo to a place where flowers grow. It’s fun playing on the seesaw and sliding on the slides, but I better not get distracted. I’m looking for a gift that hides.

It’s always a super fun adventure to walk through the park. I can see birds, mushrooms, and flowers right next to the path. That flower looks great—colorful, bright, and stout! I better go over there and carefully check it out. The petals have beautiful colors and a very nice scent. What a shame it was that all the petals were bent.

If it wasn’t at the park, where could the perfect flower lie? Perhaps hiding next to a street or where the Earth meets the sky, atop the hills and out of town. That’s surely where it’ll be found. Going up a slope is difficult; it will make you sweat and frown. That doesn’t mean it’s any easier to ride a rocky road going down.

Plenty of flowers! This place looks the best. It really should be! That climb was a test. This flower has a petal that is too long, this one has a petal that’s got its color wrong, this flower has a petal missing, and this one’s got me wheezing down the hill.

The perfect flower just couldn’t be found. Poor Leo felt sad. A good day turned bad. He had no gift for Mom and had no choice but to come home.

That’s Leo over there, and he looks down. I wonder what happened. Wasn’t he just riding around?

“I’m really sorry, Mom. Believe me, I tried! I went looking for the perfect flower, but these flowers are all I could find.”

“These flowers are just perfect! Oh, Leo, you just haven’t realized that any flowers you bring me will be my perfect treasure for life.”

Isn’t little Leo the sweetest little boy? Have you picked any pretty flowers for your mommy? Well, maybe you should too!
