For Little Sock, every day is the same.
All the other socks seem happy, but Little Sock dreams of something different.
He has heard of a magical place called Sock City, where every day is a new adventure.
The only way to get to Sock City is through a secret tunnel in the back of the dryer.

Late one night, Little Sock climbs out of the drawer and into the tunnel.
The tunnel is very dark and very scary, but Little Sock is brave.
Finally, he sees a light at the end of the tunnel.
Oh, there it is—Sock City!
Everywhere Little Sock looks, he sees something new and exciting.
There are big socks, tiny socks, new socks, old socks, sporty socks, straight socks, polka dot socks, and even smelly socks.

He can’t wait to go back again, maybe bring a friend.
Oh, let’s go!

Hi, I’m Mila and I’m Kai.
We just watched Little Sock on Books.
My favorite part was when the dog was eating Little Sock.
Well, my favorite part has to be when Little Sock was seeing all the other little socks in Sock City.

Today we’re going to show you how to make your own puppet sock inspired by Little Sock on Books.
Here’s what you’ll need to make this at home: socks, hot glue gun (you will need a grown-up for that one), scissors, felt, yarn, pipe cleaners, buttons, googly eyes, pearls, or whatever fun decor you have lying around your house.

Step one: Cut out felt lips or a mustache.
I’m going to be making lips for my puppet, but these sock puppets are all up to your own creativity, so add whatever mouth or mustache that you want.

Step two: Lay out your face.
I want my puppet to have button eyes.
I really want my puppet to have googly eyes—pretty wacky!

Step three: Hot glue away!
You are going to need your grown-up for this one because hot glue guns can get pretty hot.

Step four: Add the finishing touches.
I found these earrings to put on my puppet—now she is fancy!
I found these glasses to put on my puppet, and the final touch—pearls for my eyes.

Step five: Retell the story of Little Sock.
First, he goes to the dryer.
Oh no, it’s the dog!

I’m the mayor of Sock City!

Little Sock lives in a drawer with other socks.
Sometimes, after the other socks have gone, this leads to a place where only socks can go.
Wow, Sock City!
There are so many fun things to do.
There are some things you can do by yourself, but there are some things you can’t do without a friend.
Little Sock wishes he had a friend.

Are there any friends around?
Oh, look! There’s another sock who’s by herself.
Little Sock wonders, could she be my friend?

Little Sock starts to worry.
How do I make a new friend?
Would she be a good friend?
Will she want to play with me?
Does she even want a friend like me?
Will she think I’m fun?

Little Sock is nervous, but he tries to be brave.
Little Sock takes a deep breath and asks, “Will you be my friend?”
“Sure!”

Sock City has so many fun things to do.
There are some things you can do by yourself, and other things are just better with a friend.
Making new friends is fun!
Thanks for playing with me. See you next time!

If you don’t have Books, what are you waiting for?
It’s a kid-safe, ad-free library full of storybooks brought to life.
My favorite story on Books is “The Unicorn and Horse” because the horse feels like he’s not beautiful, but he actually is.
I’m going to explore more on Books, and you should too!
Don’t wait around—ask your grown-up and start exploring more fun stories like these. You’ll be glad you did!
