Hello, little explorer! Today, we’re going to have fun learning about how to group things together. Are you ready? Let’s go!
Sometimes, we put things together because they are the same in some way. Let’s start with size. Imagine you have a big monkey and a big crab. Even though one is a monkey and the other is a crab, they both belong together because they are big!
Now, let’s look at some elephants. We can group them by color. Can you find two blue elephants? Yes, there they are! Even if one is big and the other is small, they are both blue, so they go together.
Let’s try something else. Look for elephants with yellow dots. Did you find them? Great job! These elephants have yellow dots, so they belong in the same group.
Now, I have a challenge for you! Look at the elephants again. Can you find the two big elephants? Take your time and look closely.
Did you find them? Awesome! Even though they are different colors, they are both big, so they belong together.
Remember, when you group things, look for what they have in common. It could be their size, color, or something else. Keep exploring and having fun!
Thanks for joining our adventure today! See you next time for more fun learning!
Size Sorting Adventure: Gather a collection of toys or objects from around your home. Try to find items of different sizes, like small blocks, medium-sized cars, and large stuffed animals. Now, sort them into groups based on their size. Can you make a group of small items, a group of medium items, and a group of large items? Once you’re done, share your groups with a friend or family member and explain why you grouped them that way.
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around your house or classroom. Find objects that are the same color and group them together. For example, look for all the red items you can find, like a red book, a red toy, and a red crayon. How many different color groups can you make? Try to find at least three different colors and create a group for each one.
Pattern Detective: Become a pattern detective and search for objects with similar patterns. Look for things with stripes, dots, or any other patterns you can find. Once you have a few items, group them based on their patterns. Can you find at least two items with the same pattern? Share your findings with a friend and see if they can find more items with the same patterns.
Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Welcome to Kids Academy!
Sometimes, when we group objects together, we’re looking for specific things they have in common. We can group objects by their color, shape, size, and in many other ways too.
When we are looking for one specific thing, none of the other characteristics matter for that group.
For example, if we are looking for two objects that are really big, their color, shape, or type don’t matter as long as they are really big.
In this group of animals, I see a really big monkey, a really small monkey, and a really big frog. The first thing I notice is that there are two monkeys, but we are looking for objects that share the same size—really big.
Let’s see if we can find another really big animal. It doesn’t matter if it’s a monkey or not, as long as it’s really big.
Whoa, check it out! Look at this awesome crab—he’s really big, just like the really big monkey.
Now, let’s find two objects that share a trait in this next group. Here we have our favorite elephants. Just look at those happy mammals!
Let’s find the two elephants that share something in common. Let’s start with color. Let’s find the two elephants that are blue.
Here they are! Even though these two elephants are different sizes, that doesn’t matter because we are looking for elephants that are the same color—blue.
Okay, how about this? Let’s find the two elephants that have dots. Here they are! I can see that these two elephants both have yellow dots.
I know there is another small elephant that looks similar to these two, but this elephant has no dots, so he doesn’t share the trait of having dots.
I’ll leave you with a challenge: I want you to look at this group of elephants again. I want you to find the two elephants that are both big. I’ll give you some time to think, but if you need more time, you can pause the video and answer when you’re ready.
Okay, here’s the answer! Look closely at the elephants. You can easily see that these two are big. They are different colors, but that doesn’t matter because they are both big elephants.
Remember to look at all the objects carefully to see which two objects share something in common.
