In this lesson, students will create a cute panda using paper plates and various paper shapes. They will learn to cut and assemble different components, such as the panda’s face, ears, arms, and legs, while also practicing their artistic skills by drawing and gluing. This fun activity encourages creativity and hands-on learning in art.
  1. What did we use to make our panda?
  2. Can you tell me what shapes we needed for the panda’s face?
  3. How do you feel about making art today?

Hello Friends!

Are you ready to have some fun? I just love making art! Today, we are going to make a cute panda using paper plates. Let’s get started!

What You Need:

  • Two paper plates
  • Black paper
  • White paper
  • Scissors
  • Something to draw with
  • Glue (or you can use a stapler or tape)

Let’s Make a Panda!

First, ask a grown-up to help you cut some shapes from the black paper. You will need:

  • Two ovals for the black fur around your panda’s eyes
  • One triangle for the nose
  • Two circles for your panda’s ears
  • Four rounded rectangles for your panda’s legs

Yay! Now, let’s put it all together.

Step 1: Make the Panda’s Head and Body

Take one of the paper plates and flip it over so it lies flat. This will be your panda’s head and body. Glue the two paper plates together.

Step 2: Add the Panda’s Face and Ears

Glue the ovals and triangle onto the plate to make the panda’s face. The ovals are for the eyes, and the triangle is for the nose. Then, glue the circles on top for the ears.

Step 3: Add the Panda’s Arms and Legs

Glue the rectangles onto the plate for the arms and legs. Now your panda can stand and play!

Step 4: Make the Panda’s Eyes

Ask a grown-up to help you cut two small white circles for the eyes. Glue them onto the panda’s face. Then, draw two smaller black circles inside for the pupils.

Step 5: Draw the Panda’s Mouth

Finally, draw a happy mouth on your panda. Wow, look at your playful panda!

Great job! You made a wonderful paper plate panda. Isn’t it fun to create art?

  1. What was your favorite part about making the paper plate panda, and why did you like it the most?
  2. Can you think of other animals you could make using paper plates and colored paper? What would you need to create them?
  3. Have you ever seen a real panda or a picture of one? What do you think makes pandas special or interesting?
  1. Explore Animal Habitats: Take a walk outside or visit a local park with a grown-up. Look for different animals and talk about where they live. Do you see any animals that might live in a forest like a panda? Draw a picture of an animal you see and its habitat. Discuss how the panda’s habitat is different from the animals you observed.

  2. Shape Hunt: Go on a shape hunt around your home or classroom. Can you find objects that are circles, ovals, triangles, or rectangles like the shapes used to make your panda? Make a list or draw the objects you find. Talk about how these shapes helped create your panda’s features.

  3. Panda Story Time: With a grown-up, read a story about pandas or watch a short video about them. Afterward, share what you learned about pandas. What do they eat? Where do they live? Draw a picture of a panda doing something fun, like climbing a tree or eating bamboo.

Here’s a sanitized version of the YouTube transcript:

Hello friends! Are you as excited as I am? I just love art! Let’s get ready to create a fun project. Today, we will make a paper plate panda.

You will need:
– Two paper plates
– Black paper
– White paper
– Scissors
– Something to draw with
– Glue (or you can use a stapler or tape)

Let’s get started! Ask a grown-up to help you cut pieces from the black paper. You’ll need:
– Two ovals for the black fur around your panda’s eyes
– One triangle for the nose
– Two circles for your panda’s ears
– Four rounded rectangles for your panda’s legs

Yay!

Now, flip one of the paper plates so it can lie flat like this. This will be your panda’s head and body. Glue the two paper plates together.

Next, glue the pieces onto the plates. Remember that the rectangles are for the arms and legs, while the ovals and triangle are for the panda’s face and ears.

Ask a grown-up to help you cut two small white circles for the eyes. Glue both parts of the eyes onto your panda’s face, and then draw two smaller black circles for the pupils.

That looks wonderful! Now, draw a mouth.

Wow, look at your playful panda!
