In this lesson, participants will create a tiger mask using a paper plate and various materials, including paint and paper. The process involves cutting out shapes for the mask, painting, and assembling the pieces to bring the tiger to life, culminating in a fun roar to celebrate their creation. The lesson emphasizes creativity and the joy of making art together.
  1. What colors did we use to make our tiger mask?
  2. What shapes did we cut out for the tiger’s face?
  3. Can you show me how to roar like a tiger?

Let’s Make a Tiger Mask!

Hi everyone! Do you like art? I love making things, and today we’re going to make a tiger mask together! Are you ready? Let’s get started!

What You Need:

  • A paper plate
  • A piece of white paper
  • A piece of black paper
  • Orange paint and a paintbrush or an orange marker
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Make sure to ask a grown-up to help you with the scissors!

Cutting Out Shapes

First, we need to cut out some shapes for our tiger mask:

  • One big white circle for the tiger’s mouth area (muzzle)
  • Two medium white circles for the tiger’s ears
  • Two smaller white circles for the inside of the ears
  • A small black triangle for the tiger’s nose
  • Thin black triangles for the tiger’s stripes
  • Some thin black strips for the tiger’s whiskers

Ask a grown-up to help you cut or poke holes for the eyes, so you can see through your mask.

Painting Time!

Now, let’s paint the paper plate and two of the bigger circles orange. This will be the tiger’s face and ears. While you wait for the paint to dry, practice your best tiger roar! Can you roar like a tiger?

Putting It All Together

Once the paint is dry, it’s time to put our tiger mask together:

  • Glue the white circles onto the orange ones for the ears.
  • Attach the ears to the top of the paper plate.
  • Glue the big white circle to the bottom of the plate for the muzzle.
  • Add the black triangle for the nose.

Adding Stripes and Whiskers

Now, let’s make our tiger look even more like a tiger! Glue the black stripes onto the face and add the whiskers.

Time to Roar!

Hold your mask up to your face and let out a big tiger roar! Can you hear how loud you are? Wow, what a fantastic tiger you are!

Great job, everyone! I hope you had fun making your tiger mask. Remember, art is all about having fun and being creative!

  • What was your favorite part about making the tiger mask, and why did you enjoy it? Can you think of other animals you would like to make masks of?
  • Have you ever seen a real tiger, maybe at a zoo or in a book? What do you think makes tigers special or different from other animals?
  • When you wear your tiger mask, how does it make you feel? Can you think of a time when you pretended to be someone or something else? What was that like?
  1. Explore Animal Patterns: Take a walk outside or look through a book with your grown-up and find different animals. Can you spot any animals with stripes like a tiger? What about spots or other patterns? Draw your favorite animal pattern on a piece of paper and share it with the class.

  2. Tiger Roar Contest: Practice your tiger roar at home. Ask your family members to join in and have a friendly contest to see who can roar the loudest or the most like a real tiger. Talk about how tigers use their roar in the wild. Why do you think they roar?

  3. Color Mixing Fun: Use paint or colored water to mix colors and see what happens. What colors do you need to make orange, like the tiger’s fur? Try mixing different colors to see what new colors you can create. Share your discoveries with your friends!
