share us on:

In this lesson, Martin and his family of birds celebrate the arrival of spring by finding tree hollows to build their cozy nests. They explore the importance of sharing these hollows among family members and emphasize teamwork in constructing their homes using natural materials. The lesson highlights themes of community, cooperation, and the joy of creating a safe living space.
  1. What do we need to find to make our cozy nests?
  2. How many tree hollows did we count together?
  3. What will we use to build our nests and make them comfy?

Welcome to Our Fun Adventure!

Hello, friend! I’m Martin, and I’m here with my big family. We have brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nephews, and nieces. We are so happy because it’s springtime! Do you know what that means? It’s time for us to build our cozy nests!

Finding the Perfect Home

We need to find special places called tree hollows to make our nests. Look over there at that big tree! Can you see the holes in it? Those are tree hollows, and they are perfect for us to live in. They will keep us warm and safe, and the wind can’t blow our nests away!

Sharing the Tree Hollows

Let’s count the tree hollows together. One, two, three! There are three tree hollows in that tree. Jack, Steve, and Bob, you each get one hollow. And look, there are two more hollows for Tony and Mark. That makes five hollows for five birds! Isn’t that just right?

Building Our Nests

Now that we have found our tree hollows, it’s time to start building our nests. We will use twigs, leaves, and soft things to make them comfy. We are all going to be good neighbors and help each other. It’s going to be so much fun!

Thanks for joining us on our adventure. Bye-bye for now!

  • What do you think it would be like to live in a tree hollow like Martin and his family? Can you imagine what it might feel like inside?
  • Have you ever seen a bird’s nest in a tree or somewhere else? What did it look like, and what do you think it was made of?
  • If you were going to build a nest for yourself, what materials would you use, and where would you want to build it?
  1. Tree Hollow Hunt: Take a walk in a nearby park or garden with your family. Look for trees and see if you can spot any tree hollows. Count how many you find and imagine which animals might live there. Draw a picture of your favorite tree and its hollows when you get home.

  2. Build a Mini Nest: Gather some twigs, leaves, and soft materials like cotton or yarn. Try to build a small nest just like Martin and his family. Think about what makes the nest cozy and safe. Share your nest with a friend or family member and explain how you made it.

  3. Family Tree Fun: Just like Martin’s big family, draw your own family tree. Include your brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Talk with your family about how everyone is connected. Can you find a special place in your home that feels like a cozy nest for your family?

Welcome to Kids Academy! Hi there, I’m Martin, and these are my brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, nephews and nieces. We’re so excited—it’s spring now, and time to build our own nests! We need to find tree hollows for our nests.

Look at that tree! I can see three tree hollows in it. Our nest will be warm and safe there; the wind won’t blow them away. Jack, Steve, and Bob, these three hollows are for you. Tony and Mark, these two tree hollows are for you. That tree’s got five hollows for five birds!

Now that I’ve found the tree hollows, we can start building our nests. We’re all going to be good neighbors. Bye-bye!
