In today’s Storytime lesson, we explored the book “Me and My Fear” by Francesca Sanna, which teaches us about the nature of fear and how it can both protect and hinder us. Through the story of a little girl who learns to navigate her fears while making friends in a new country, we discovered that everyone has fears, and that sharing experiences can help diminish them. The lesson emphasizes the importance of bravery and connection in overcoming challenges.
  1. What is the name of the little girl’s friend in the story?

Welcome to Storytime!

Hi everyone! Welcome back to the Storytime Family. How are you today? Did you have fun at school? Did you learn something new or make new friends at the playground? That sounds amazing!

Meet “Me and My Fear”

Today, we have a special book called “Me and My Fear” by Francesca Sanna. Can you guess what it’s about? We all have fears, and sometimes they help keep us safe. But other times, fears can stop us from trying new things and having fun. Let’s find out how a little girl learns to be friends with her fear.

The Little Girl and Her Fear

In the story, there’s a little girl who just moved to a new country. She has a tiny friend called Fear. Fear used to be small and helped keep her safe. But now, Fear is getting bigger and bigger.

The girl wants to explore her new neighborhood, but Fear doesn’t let her. At school, Fear makes her feel scared and alone. Have you ever felt like that? Sometimes we all do, but being brave can help us feel better.

Finding a Friend

One day, a boy in her class wants to show her something. They start drawing and painting together. She made a friend! Do you remember how you made your first friend? It often starts with a simple “hi.”

At the playground, a dog barks, and the boy hides. He has a fear too! Everyone has fears, and that’s okay. The girl’s Fear starts getting smaller as she makes more friends.

Everyone Has Fears

As the girl makes friends, she notices that everyone has fears. Some fears are big, some are small, but we all have them. And that’s perfectly fine!

  • Can you think of a time when you felt scared to try something new, like the little girl in the story? What helped you feel brave enough to try it?
  • What are some things you do when you feel scared? Do you talk to someone, draw a picture, or maybe play with a friend?
  • Why do you think it’s important to talk about our fears with friends or family? How can sharing our fears help us feel better?
  1. Fear Journal: Create a “Fear Journal” where you can draw or write about something that makes you feel scared. Each day, try to add a new page. You can also draw or write about how you felt brave that day. Share your journal with a family member or friend and talk about your feelings. This will help you understand that everyone has fears and it’s okay to talk about them.

  2. Fear and Friendship Role Play: With a friend or family member, act out a scene where you meet someone new at school or the playground. Practice saying “hi” and asking if they want to play. Talk about how it feels to make a new friend and how it can help make your fears smaller. This activity will help you see how being friendly can help overcome fears.

  3. Fear Monster Craft: Use craft materials like paper, markers, and glue to create your own “Fear Monster.” Make it as silly or as colorful as you like. Once you’re done, talk about what makes your Fear Monster grow and what makes it shrink. Display your Fear Monster at home to remind you that fears can be managed and even turned into something fun!

Hi everyone! Welcome back to the Storytime Family. How have you been? Were you good at school today? Did you learn anything new? Did you get to play at the playground and make new friends? That sounds awesome!

Well, today we have a book called “Me and My Fear” by Francesca Sanna. Can you guess what this book is about? We all have fears, and fears can keep us safe by stopping us from doing dangerous things. But sometimes, fears can also prevent us from trying new things. When fears become too big, they can stop us from living a full life and experiencing fun and amazing things. They can make us feel lonely, scared, and insecure too.

In this book, we’re going to learn about a little girl who just moved to a new country and her fears, and how she found a friend and managed to make friends with her fear. Let’s take a look at “Me and My Fear.”

“I’ve always had a secret, a tiny friend called Fear. Fear has always looked after me and kept me safe. Together, we have explored new things and supported each other. But since we came to this new country, Fear isn’t so little anymore. She keeps growing and growing.

I want to go outside and discover my new neighborhood, but Fear won’t move. And when I have to go to school, Fear doesn’t want me to go. Fear hates my new school. When the teacher says my name wrong, she grows angry, even though I know it was just an accident.

At break time, Fear keeps me all to herself. Have you ever felt like that before? Well, sometimes we all do. We feel scared, but sometimes we have to be brave. I don’t understand anyone, and they don’t understand me. Sometimes we may feel alone, but if you know that others feel the same way too, it’s not really that bad.

When school is over, Fear can’t wait to go home, and at dinner, Fear eats all the food she can. Sometimes we do things that make us feel safe—could be eating, could be sleeping. Different people feel differently, and they have different things that make them feel safe, and that’s okay too.

At night in my new room, Fear dreams so loudly that I can’t sleep. I sometimes have trouble sleeping too. I feel more and more lonely every day. Fear says it’s because no one likes me. Well, I don’t like it here, but how does she know that no one likes her if she’s never talked to anyone, right?

But what’s this? A boy in my class wants to show me something! Soon we begin to draw and paint together. See? She found a friend! Do you remember how you made your first friend? Yeah, well that’s how it all begins—by saying hi.

At break time, I want to go outside and play with a boy. As we run through the playground, suddenly a dog barks at us through the fence. The boy screams and hides quickly behind something strange and small. Hey, he has a fear too, and he’s really cute! He has a secret fear like me. I thought I was the only one to have one.

See? Everyone has fears. Fear is getting smaller each day, and our school is not so difficult anymore. It’s not as easy to understand everything, but I’ve started to notice that everyone else has a fear too. Some are big, some are smaller, some are cute, some are sour, and sometimes we all play together. That looks like a party!

Did you like “Me and My Fear”? Well, I love this book, and I hope you like it as much as I do. Thanks for joining us today, and maybe this book will help you overcome a fear you might have been thinking about.

Don’t forget to give us a like and subscribe! Leave us a comment and tell us about your fears, or maybe no fears at all. We’ll see you back here soon with other fun books. Take care now! Bye-bye!
