Meet the Math Facts with Kate & Nate – Ice Cream Day

Welcome to Ice Cream Day!

Today, we’re going to have fun with Kate and Nate as they enjoy some yummy ice cream. Let’s learn about adding and subtracting with them!

Adding Scoops of Ice Cream

Kate and Nate start with two scoops of ice cream. Yum! Then, they get three more scoops. Wow, that’s a lot of ice cream!

Let’s Add Together

When we put the two scoops and the three scoops together, we get five scoops in total. So, 2 plus 3 equals 5. Isn’t that fun?

Learning with Ice Cream

Adding numbers is like adding scoops of ice cream. You start with some, add more, and see how many you have altogether. You can try this with your toys or snacks too!

Join the Fun!

Kate and Nate love learning with you. Make sure to join them next time for more fun and learning. Keep practicing your math skills, and you’ll be a math star in no time!

  • What is your favorite ice cream flavor, and how many scoops would you like to have? Can you add more scoops and tell us how many you have in total?
  • Have you ever shared your ice cream with a friend? How many scoops did you have before and after sharing? Can you think of other things you like to share?
  • Can you think of a time when you had to add or subtract something, like toys or snacks? How did it feel to have more or less of them?
  1. Ice Cream Scoop Addition Game: Gather some playdough or colored paper to create your own ice cream scoops. Start with two scoops and then add more, just like Kate and Nate. How many scoops can you add together? Try different combinations and count them out loud. Can you make a tower of ten scoops?

  2. Snack Time Math: Use your favorite snacks like crackers or fruit slices. Start with a small number, like two pieces, and then add more. How many do you have now? Share your snacks with a friend and see how many you have together. Can you make a snack pile of five?

  3. Number Hunt: Go on a number hunt around your home or classroom. Find groups of objects, like books or toys, and count how many there are. Add more objects to the group and count again. How many do you have now? Can you find a group that adds up to ten?
