Meet the Math Facts with Kate & Nate – Picking Apples

Let’s Have Fun with Math!

Hi there! Today, we’re going to have some fun with our friends, Kate and Nate. They are out in the apple orchard, picking apples. Do you like apples? Let’s see how many apples they pick!

Counting Apples with Kate and Nate

Kate and Nate start with three apples. Can you count to three with me? One, two, three! Great job!

Now, they pick three more apples. Let’s count those too. One, two, three! Wow, that’s a lot of apples!

Adding Apples Together

Now, let’s see how many apples they have in total. We can add the apples together. We had three apples, and then we added three more. Let’s count them all together: one, two, three, four, five, six!

So, 3 + 3 equals 6. Isn’t that fun? You just did some math!

Try It Yourself!

Do you have some toys or blocks at home? You can try adding them just like Kate and Nate did with the apples. Start with a small number, like two or three, and then add a few more. Count them all together to see how many you have!

Keep Learning and Having Fun!

Math is all around us, and it’s so much fun to learn with friends like Kate and Nate. Keep practicing, and you’ll be a math whiz in no time!

Thanks for learning with us today. See you next time for more fun with math!

  • What are some things you like to count at home or outside, just like Kate and Nate counted apples? Can you share a time when you counted something fun?
  • Have you ever picked apples or another fruit? What was it like? If not, what fruit or vegetable would you like to pick and why?
  • Can you think of other ways we use math in our everyday lives, like when we are playing or helping at home? Share an example with your family or friends!
  1. Apple Counting Adventure: Go on a mini adventure in your backyard or a nearby park. Collect small objects like leaves, stones, or twigs. Start with a small number, like two or three, and then add a few more. Count them all together to see how many you have. Can you find a way to group them to make counting easier?

  2. Apple Art Addition: Use red, green, and yellow paper to cut out apple shapes. Start with three apples of one color and add three more of another color. Glue them onto a piece of paper and count them all together. How many apples do you have now? Try adding different numbers of apples and see what new totals you can create!

  3. Story Time Math: Create a short story with your family about picking apples. Each family member can pretend to pick a certain number of apples. Add up all the apples picked in the story. How many apples did your family pick together? Share your story with a friend and see if they can add the apples too!
