Meet the Phonics Letter Sounds – Word Building

Let’s Learn Some Fun Words!

Hey there! Are you ready to have some fun with words? Let’s start by learning how to say some simple words together. We can make new words by putting sounds together. Let’s try it!

Bag

Say it with me: B-a-g. Great job! You just said the word “bag.” Let’s try another one!

Cat

Now, let’s say: C-a-t. Awesome! You said “cat.” Cats are furry and love to play. Can you think of a cat you know?

Fun

Here’s a happy word: F-u-n. Yay! You said “fun.” What do you like to do for fun?

Tricky Words

Some words can be a little tricky, but that’s okay! We just need to listen to all the sounds we know and try our best.

Oh

Let’s say: O-h. That’s the word “oh.” We say “oh” when we are surprised or when we understand something new.

Me

Now, try this: M-e. You said “me.” We use “me” when we talk about ourselves. Can you say something about you?

You

Finally, let’s say: Y-o-u. Great! You said “you.” We use “you” when we talk to someone else. Can you think of a nice thing to say to someone?

Keep Practicing!

You’re doing an amazing job learning new words! Keep practicing, and soon you’ll know lots of words. Remember, learning is fun, and you can always ask for help if you need it. Happy learning!

  • Can you think of other words that start with the same sound as “cat”? What are some things you know that make the same sound?
  • What is something fun you did today or this week? How did it make you feel?
  • Can you share a time when you learned a new word? How did you feel when you understood what it meant?
  1. Sound Hunt: Go on a sound hunt around your home or classroom! Find objects that start with the same sounds as the words we learned. For example, look for something that starts with the “B” sound like “bag” or the “C” sound like “cat.” Share what you find with your friends or family!

  2. Word Building Blocks: Use building blocks or letter tiles to create the words we practiced. Start with “bag,” “cat,” and “fun.” Mix and match the blocks to see if you can make new words by changing one letter at a time. What new words can you create?

  3. Story Time with Tricky Words: Create a short story using the tricky words “oh,” “me,” and “you.” Draw pictures to go along with your story. Share your story with a friend or family member and see if they can spot the tricky words!
