In today’s lesson, young learners explored the world of shapes through the fun activity of building an ice cream cone. They discovered how circles, triangles, and squares come together to create a delicious treat, while also encouraging them to find shapes in their everyday surroundings. The lesson emphasized the joy of learning about shapes and invited children to continue their exploration through games and activities in the Preschool PrepKids Club.
  1. What shape is the ice cream scoop on top of the cone?
  2. Can you name something else that is shaped like a triangle?
  3. Where can you find shapes around your house or outside?

Meet the Shapes – Building Segment “Ice Cream”

Hello, little learners! Today, we are going to have a fun adventure with shapes. Are you ready to learn and play? Let’s get started!

Discovering Shapes

Shapes are everywhere around us! They can be circles, squares, triangles, and more. Let’s find out how these shapes can come together to make something yummy, like ice cream!

Circle

A circle is round, just like the sun or a ball. Can you think of something else that is a circle? That’s right, the scoop of ice cream on top of a cone is a circle!

Triangle

A triangle has three sides. It looks like a slice of pizza or a mountain. The cone that holds the ice cream is shaped like a triangle. Isn’t that cool?

Square

A square has four sides that are all the same length. It looks like a window or a box. Sometimes, we use squares to make fun patterns on our ice cream cones!

Building an Ice Cream Cone

Now, let’s put our shapes together to make a delicious ice cream cone! First, we start with a triangle for the cone. Then, we add a circle on top for the ice cream scoop. You can even add more circles if you want more scoops!

Fun with Shapes

Isn’t it fun to see how shapes can make something we love? You can find shapes in so many things around you. Try looking for shapes in your toys, books, and even outside!

If you want to have more fun with shapes, games, and puzzles, you can join the Preschool PrepKids Club. There are lots of exciting things to do and learn. We can’t wait to see you there!

Thank you for learning with us today. Keep exploring and having fun with shapes!

  • Can you think of other foods or objects that are made up of different shapes like the ice cream cone? What shapes do you see in them?
  • When you look around your home or classroom, what shapes can you find? Do you see any circles, triangles, or squares? Share what you find with your friends or family.
  • Imagine you are designing your own ice cream cone. What shapes would you use, and how many scoops would you add? What flavors would they be?
  1. Shape Hunt Adventure: Go on a shape hunt around your home or classroom! Look for objects that match the shapes we learned about: circles, triangles, and squares. Can you find a circle like the ice cream scoop, a triangle like the cone, and a square like a window? Draw or take pictures of the shapes you find and share them with your friends or family.

  2. Build Your Own Ice Cream Cone: Use craft materials like colored paper, scissors, and glue to create your own ice cream cone. Cut out a triangle for the cone and circles for the scoops. How many scoops will you add? You can even decorate your ice cream with sprinkles or cherries using markers or stickers. Display your creation for everyone to see!

  3. Shape Story Time: Imagine a story where the shapes come to life. What adventures do the circle, triangle, and square go on together? Share your story with a friend or family member. You can even act it out using toys or drawings. How do the shapes help each other in your story?
