In today’s lesson, we introduced young learners to six essential sight words: “have,” “and,” “a,” “said,” “play,” and “that.” These words are commonly used in reading and conversation, and students practiced creating sentences with them to enhance their understanding. The lesson also encouraged participation in the Preschool Prep Kids Club for additional fun learning activities.
  1. What is a sight word that we learned today?
  2. Can you make a sentence using the word “play”?
  3. What do we use the word “and” for when we talk?

Meet the Sight Words: Let’s Learn Together!

Hello, little friend! Today, we are going to have a fun time learning some special words. These words are called “sight words.” They are words we see and use a lot when we read and talk. Let’s learn them together!

Our Special Words

Here are the special words we will learn today:

1. Have

We use “have” when we talk about things we own or do. For example, “I have a toy” or “We have fun!”

2. And

“And” is a word that helps us connect things. Like, “I like apples and bananas.” It helps us put things together!

3. A

“A” is a tiny word we use before a noun. Like, “a cat” or “a ball.” It helps us talk about one thing.

4. Said

“Said” is a word we use when we tell what someone spoke. For example, “Mom said, ‘Time to play!’”

5. Play

“Play” is a fun word! We use it when we talk about having fun. Like, “Let’s play with toys!”

6. That

“That” is a word we use to point to something. Like, “Look at that bird!” It helps us show what we are talking about.

Let’s Practice!

Now that we know our special words, let’s practice using them. You can try making sentences with each word. Maybe you can say, “I have a ball,” or “Let’s play and have fun!”

Have a great time learning and playing with your new sight words!

  • Can you think of a sentence using the word “play”? What are some of your favorite things to play with?
  • When you hear the word “said,” who is someone you remember saying something important or funny? What did they say?
  • Can you find something around you and use the word “that” to describe it? For example, “That is a…”
  1. Word Hunt Adventure: Go on a word hunt around your home or classroom! Look for items that match the sight words you learned. Can you find a toy to say “I have a toy”? Or maybe point to something and say “Look at that chair”? Share your findings with a friend or family member.

  2. Sight Word Story Time: Create a short story using the sight words. You can draw pictures to go along with your story. For example, draw a picture of a cat and a ball, and write “A cat and a ball play together.” Share your story with your classmates or family.

  3. Play and Say Game: Gather a few toys and play with a friend. As you play, try to use the sight words in your conversation. For example, you might say, “Let’s play with a car and a doll,” or “I have a puzzle.” See how many times you can use the sight words while having fun!
