Hey there, little learner! Are you ready to have some fun with words? Let’s talk about something called “sight words.” These are special words that we see a lot when we read. Sometimes, they don’t follow the usual rules, so we learn them by remembering how they look. This makes reading easier and more fun!
Sight words are words like “the,” “and,” and “is.” We see them all the time in books and stories. When we know these words by sight, we can read faster and understand stories better. Isn’t that cool?
Before Level 4, there were Levels 1, 2, and 3. These levels helped us learn 47 important sight words. Now, with Level 4, we get to learn 15 more words! That’s a lot of words to help us become super readers!
There are fun videos called “Meet the Sight Words” that can help us learn. You can watch them on a DVD or download them to watch on a phone, tablet, computer, or even a smart TV. This means you can learn wherever you are!

Sight Word Scavenger Hunt: Go on a scavenger hunt around your home or classroom to find sight words. Look for words like “the,” “and,” or “is” in books, magazines, or even on labels and signs. Each time you find one, write it down on a piece of paper. How many different places can you find these words?
Create a Sight Word Story: Use your imagination to create a short story using as many sight words as you can. Draw pictures to go along with your story. Share your story with a friend or family member and see if they can spot all the sight words you used!
Sight Word Art: Pick your favorite sight word and create a piece of art around it. You can use crayons, markers, or even paint. Make the word big and colorful, and decorate it with drawings of things that remind you of the word. Hang your artwork somewhere special to help you remember the word.

A new reader may feel frustrated by sight words until they are memorized, while a good reader can instantly recognize sight words without needing to decode them.
Meet the Sight Words Levels 1, 2, and 3 taught the 47 most frequent kindergarten sight words. Level 4 introduces the next 15 words on the list.
