Mexico City – Educational Trip Around the World

Welcome to our exciting trip around the world! Today, we are going to explore the amazing Mexico City. Let’s join Lily and Jeff as they start a fun adventure to learn more about their family history.

Discovering Family Roots

Lily and Jeff came home from school feeling a bit worried. Their teacher asked them to find out more about their family, and they weren’t sure where to start. But then, they found an old map that showed where their grandparents were born. Their dad had a great idea!

“Pack your bags, kids! With this map and my new invention, the World Whirler, we can follow our ancestors’ footsteps around the world. Let’s start with beautiful Mexico!”

Exploring Mexico City

The family arrived in Mexico City and stayed in the main square, called the Plaza de la Constitución, or El Zócalo. It’s a big, busy place where people gather to celebrate. There’s also a huge cathedral there. Their Aunt Rosa lives in Mexico because she loves the paintings of a famous artist named Frida Kahlo.

Visiting the Pyramids

Aunt Rosa invited Lily and Jeff to visit the pyramids where she works. The place is called Teotihuacan, which means “City of Gods.” It was built a long time ago, around 200 A.D. There are two big pyramids: the Pyramid of the Sun, which is 216 feet tall, and the Pyramid of the Moon, which is 148 feet tall. The kids thought it was an awesome place!

More Adventures

After visiting the pyramids, the family planned to go to a museum. Jeff was excited to take a boat ride on a lake and try some delicious tacos. They were having so much fun learning about their family and other cultures.

  • What do you think it would be like to visit a big city like Mexico City? Have you ever been to a big city, and what did you see or do there?
  • Imagine you could travel anywhere in the world to learn about your family history. Where would you go, and what would you hope to discover?
  • Why do you think it’s important to learn about different cultures and places? Can you think of something interesting you’ve learned about another culture?
  1. Family Tree Exploration: Create your own family tree! Ask your parents or guardians to help you find out where your grandparents or great-grandparents were born. Draw a tree and write their names on the branches. You can even add pictures if you have them. Think about how your family history connects to different places around the world, just like Lily and Jeff’s adventure.

  2. Build a Pyramid: Use building blocks, clay, or even sugar cubes to create your own pyramid. As you build, imagine what it was like for the people who built the pyramids in Teotihuacan. How tall can you make your pyramid? Share your creation with your family and tell them about the pyramids of the Sun and Moon that Lily and Jeff visited.

  3. Art and Culture Exploration: Learn about Frida Kahlo, the artist Aunt Rosa loves. Find a picture of one of her paintings and try to recreate it using crayons or paints. What colors does she use? How do her paintings make you feel? Discuss with your family why art is an important part of culture and history.
