In the big construction site, five friendly trucks wake up with the morning sun. They stretch, get ready, and say, “Hello!” to the new day. They are excited because there’s a big job to do today!
The trucks look at the plans and see the biggest building they’ve ever seen! It’s so big that they need more help. The cement mixer honks his horn loudly to call more trucks.
More mighty trucks hear the call and come quickly to help. Now there are ten big trucks ready to work together. They are a super team that can do anything!
Skid steer is small and quick. She can spin and do tricks! Bulldozer is big and strong. He pushes dirt to clear the land, but he likes having friends to help.
Skid steer and bulldozer work as a team. Skid steer breaks rocks, and bulldozer clears the way. They are a great pair!
Excavator digs long trenches, and backhoe places pipes in the ground. They work together like a dance, digging and dropping, over and over.
Crane truck lifts heavy beams high in the air. But oh no! He runs out of supplies. Just then, flatbed truck arrives with more supplies. Hooray!
Front loader and dump truck move big piles of dirt. Loader scoops and lifts, while dump truck carries it away. They are strong and work hard every day.
Cement mixer mixes and pours concrete all around. Pumper truck helps by pushing the concrete high up. Together, they make roads and floors.
All the trucks work together, each doing their part. They finish the big job just like the plan. Teamwork makes everything fast and fun!
The sun sets, and the trucks are tired. They find their cozy beds to rest and dream. Tomorrow will bring new adventures. Good night, little trucks!
Build Your Own Construction Site: Gather some toy trucks, blocks, and sand or play dough. Create a mini construction site at home or in the classroom. Encourage the children to assign roles to each truck, just like in the story. Ask them to think about what each truck would do and how they can work together to build something. Discuss how teamwork helps them complete their project faster and more efficiently.
Teamwork Challenge: Organize a simple group activity where children must work together to achieve a goal, such as building a tower with blocks or completing a puzzle. After the activity, ask them questions like, “How did working together help you finish the task?” and “What was your favorite part about working as a team?” This will help them reflect on the importance of teamwork.
Truck Observation Walk: Take the children on a walk around the neighborhood or school to observe real construction sites or large vehicles. Encourage them to identify different types of trucks and guess what jobs they might be doing. Ask questions like, “What do you think this truck is doing?” and “How do you think it helps the other trucks?” This will help them connect the story to real-world examples.

**Mighty Mighty Construction Site**
By Sherry Dusky Rinker and Tom Lichtenheld
[Music]
Down in the big construction site, five trucks wake to morning light. It’s time to stretch, roll out of bed, and gear up for the day ahead. They wipe their faces, greet the sun, load up, fuel up, rev up, and run. They’re eager to get things underway; there’s a brand new job to start today.
The plans unrolled, they stare in awe at the biggest thing they ever saw—a massive building so immense, this giant job will be intense. It’s a lot for them to do, too much for just a five-truck crew. The cement mixer is thinking fast; he gives his horn a blaring blast.
[Music]
Mighty trucks all hear the call; they start up in no time at all. Out on the road, they drive full steam; they rush right in to join the team. Rolling, rumbling, revving hard, ten big trucks meet in the yard—a mighty massive super crew; there’s nothing they can’t do.
Skid steer is nimble, small, and quick; she turns, she spins, she does a trick. Bulldozer is heavy, wide, and grand; he’ll push and plow to clear the land, but even he can use a hand.
[Music]
Skid’s breaker bit blasts rocks to rubble, so dozer rolls through without trouble. Two friends at work, one big, one small; they clear the way, they move at all.
[Music]
Each long trench is marked and planned; excavator digs the land. Then backhoe grabs a drainage pipe and sets it down in one smooth swipe. Turn and dig, then lift and drop; then push some dirt right back on top. They set each pipe and then repeat; this duo doesn’t miss a beat.
Pulling up with all his might, crane truck lifts a beam to height. Then he spins his hook around, but just before it touches ground, crane truck gasps in surprise; he’s used up all of his supplies.
But what’s this coming down the road? Could it be another load?
[Music]
Mighty flatbed revs and runs smoothly, hauling 50 tons down the road. Over hills, her load strapped tight so nothing spills. She rolls right to a stop with crane supplies all stacked on top. Flatbed truck just saved the day; their work can get back underway.
Front loader and dump truck pair to move great loads from here to there, digging, lifting, hauling ground. Giant piles are moved around. Loader digs and scoops his fill, then tilts it up so there’s no spill. His bucket raises to the max, then beep beep beep as loader backs dirt and gravel hauled away. These pals move mountains every day.
[Music]
Cement mixer is working hard around the whole construction yard. Load after load, he churns and pours, makes foundations, roads, and floors. But now the concrete needs to climb, and here comes pumper right on time. Pumper’s boom unfolds, goes high, reaching up towards the sky. Fill the hopper, flip the switch, and zoom—concrete is pushed into the boom. Up through the pipe, it does not stop; then concrete comes out way on top. Turn and pour and lift and fill; this team works hard with speed and skill.
[Music]
Rough and rugged all day long, rolling, lifting, digging strong. Each truck has a part to play to help the work get done today.
[Music]
Just like the plan, the job’s complete; this awesome team just can’t be beat. Cooperation got it done; teamwork made it fast and fun. The new crew leaves, but on their way, crane truck waves, “Great work today!”
The crew drives off, engines loud, feeling tired but strong and proud.
[Music]
It’s getting dark; the sun is set. The trucks are tired as they can get. They roll to find their cozy beds to cuddle up and rest their heads, to close their eyes and drift away. New adventures wait another day. Construction site all tucked in tight—great work today, now shh, good night.
