Welcome to a fun journey about amazing mothers in nature! Let’s celebrate how wonderful and caring they are.
Linda Wooten once said, “Being a mother is learning about strengths you didn’t know you had and dealing with fears you didn’t know existed.” This means that being a mom is both challenging and rewarding, and it helps mothers discover how strong they really are.
The journey to becoming a mother starts even before the babies are born. Some animal moms build cozy nests or find safe places to keep their babies protected. Other moms lay eggs and watch over them until they hatch. Some even lay hundreds of eggs to make sure that many of their babies grow up safely.
Once the babies are born, whether from eggs or live birth, their lives are all about eating, playing, and sleeping. But their mothers work hard to keep them safe and happy. Moms are like superheroes for their babies, protecting them from danger and teaching them important lessons about life.
A mother gives her babies comfort and warmth, helping them feel safe and confident. She shows them how to survive and find food. Some moms produce special milk just for their babies, while others go out to find food and bring it back.
Mothers love their babies more than anything else. They stay alert to keep them safe and always show them love. Even when their babies grow up and leave to start their own lives, mothers want them to be happy, learn new things, and share their knowledge with others.
Motherhood can be tough and tiring, but it’s also the most rewarding job. To all the mothers out there: you are loved, appreciated, and we thank you for everything you do!
Thank you for joining us on this adventure about mothers in nature. If you have ideas for what you’d like to learn next, let us know! And don’t forget to share this with your friends and family!
Animal Mother Observation: Take a walk in your local park or garden with an adult and try to spot different animals. Observe how these animals care for their young ones. Do you see any birds feeding their chicks or a cat with her kittens? Draw a picture of what you see and write a few sentences about how the animal mother is taking care of her babies.
Build a Nest: Using materials like twigs, leaves, and grass, try to build a small nest just like some animal mothers do for their babies. Think about what makes a nest safe and comfortable. Once you’re done, discuss with your classmates or family why nests are important for baby animals and how they help keep them safe.
Role-Playing Game: With your friends or family, play a game where you pretend to be different animal mothers and their babies. Choose an animal and act out how the mother cares for her young. For example, you could be a penguin mother keeping her chick warm or a lioness teaching her cubs to hunt. Talk about what you learned from pretending to be an animal mother.

Welcome to EZA Homeschool Academy: Mothers in Nature – A Celebration of Motherhood.
Linda Wooten said, “Being a mother is learning about strengths you didn’t know you had and dealing with fears you didn’t know existed.”
The road to motherhood begins long before the baby is born. Some mothers build nests or prepare a safe space before they have their babies. Some mothers lay eggs and guard their nests until their babies hatch. There are other mothers who lay hundreds of eggs to increase the chances of many of them making it to adulthood.
For the mothers who lay eggs, they do so in a safe place so that when their babies are born, they have a greater chance of survival.
Many mothers in nature give birth to live young. For these newborns, life is pretty simple: eat, play, sleep, repeat. While the priorities of newborns might be very simple, their mothers do a great deal to ensure they are well taken care of. For many young animals in nature, their mothers are their first line of defense. She protects her young against predators, provides a safe place for them to grow and learn, nurtures their curious minds, and imparts life lessons.
A mother provides comfort, warmth, and builds confidence in her young. She models behaviors necessary for survival and is a gentle teacher. She provides nourishment in the form of food. Some mothers produce milk specially designed for their young, while others hunt for food and bring it back to their babies. Mothers sacrifice for their young every day, and their love is never-ending. A mother’s love is unmatched. They stay alert to ensure their young are safe, give love, and take pride in their children.
Motherhood looks different for every family, but no matter what, we know they care. Motherhood comes with many challenges, and it can be a tiresome job, but it is also the most rewarding job of all. One of the hardest moments in motherhood is watching your young go off to live their own lives. No matter the species, all mothers want the same for their young: to be happy, to grow, to learn, and to teach others what they’ve been taught.
To mothers everywhere: you are loved, you are appreciated, and we thank you.
