Have you ever heard of MrBeast? He’s a YouTuber known for his wild and creative videos. But there’s more to him than just fun and games. MrBeast believes in spreading positivity and making a difference in the world. He thinks it’s easy to criticize or be negative, but creating something positive and entertaining is much harder and more rewarding.
MrBeast often receives messages from parents saying their kids are inspired by his videos to volunteer or donate money. Even other YouTubers follow his lead and create similar positive content. Knowing that his influence encourages good deeds is fulfilling for him.
MrBeast loves coming up with unique and crazy ideas that focus on helping others. One day, he had the idea to plant a million trees. After researching, he realized it was impossible to do alone. So, he decided to make it even more challenging by aiming to plant 20 million trees to celebrate reaching 20 million subscribers!
MrBeast tweeted about his goal, and soon, he connected with Mark Rober, a former NASA and Apple engineer turned YouTuber. Together, they brainstormed how to make this dream a reality. They realized that asking people to plant trees in their backyards might harm local ecosystems, so they needed a better plan.
They partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation, an organization experienced in planting trees worldwide. The foundation agreed to plant a tree for every dollar donated. This led to the creation of “Team Trees,” with the slogan “$1 equals one tree.”
The goal was to plant trees on every continent except Antarctica. Team Trees wasn’t just about making a video; it was about making a real impact. MrBeast and Mark aimed to raise $20 million to plant 20 million trees by 2020, giving them just two months to achieve this ambitious goal.
MrBeast reached out to other YouTubers, expecting little interest. To his surprise, almost every YouTuber he contacted was excited to help. Hundreds of creators made videos to support Team Trees, which launched on October 25, 2019.
The project quickly gained momentum. A leaderboard tracked top donors, with contributions starting at $10,000 and eventually reaching over a million dollars. Even Elon Musk donated a million dollars!
The real power of Team Trees was in inspiring people, especially kids, to take action. Even small donations made a difference, encouraging young people to adopt eco-friendly habits like turning off lights and recycling.
MrBeast and Mark Rober showed that when people come together, they can achieve incredible things. Team Trees proved that the internet can be a force for good, making a positive impact on the world.
Think about a positive change you want to see in your community or school. Design a challenge similar to MrBeast’s initiatives that encourages others to participate. Share your idea with your classmates and discuss how you can make it a reality.
Research the environmental benefits of planting trees. Prepare a short presentation to share with the class, highlighting how trees contribute to the ecosystem and why initiatives like Team Trees are important.
Work in groups to plan a small fundraiser in support of an environmental cause. Decide on a creative way to raise funds, such as a bake sale or a sponsored walk, and present your plan to the class.
Choose a YouTuber you admire and write a letter encouraging them to support a positive cause. Explain how their influence can make a difference and suggest ways they can get involved.
Create a series of posters promoting eco-friendly habits, such as recycling or conserving energy. Display your posters around the school to inspire others to take action for the environment.

All you have to do is say, “And subscribe to MrBeast.” Just say it real quick: “And subscribe to MrBeast.” Yeah, you have to say it like that. Thank you! That was pretty easy.
Dude, are you serious? Yeah, heck yeah! Are you doing this just for fun? I really think positivity can be just as interesting as negativity. I just think it’s harder. That’s the distinction. I think it’s easy to trash talk or tear down something, but it’s a lot harder to make an upbeat, fulfilling video that’s also entertaining.
We get messages all the time from moms who say, “Yeah, my little kid watched your videos, and now they want to go volunteer. Now they want to donate their own money.” Even other creators, after we do something, they do something similar. That’s fulfilling for me to know that a lot of the influence we are leaving is positive and encouraging.
We have a circle under this tarp, and anything you can fit in this mysterious circle will be paid for. We are the only soup kitchen in town, and we served about 35,000 meals last year. Thank you so much! That’s awesome!
I like to do unique, crazy, insane things and keep the focus on positive helping. Whenever we come up with a crazy idea, it usually goes in that direction because that’s kind of the goal. I had this idea that I wanted to plant a million trees for one of my videos. We started researching and called a bunch of companies, and we came to the conclusion that it was not possible. A million trees is way too many trees to plant.
So then I did something typical for me: when something’s not possible, I make it more impossible. I thought, “Oh, I’m about to hit 20 million subscribers; I want to plant 20 million trees!” Everyone was like, “Does your brain not work?” And I was like, “Nope! I want to plant 20 million trees!”
I threw out a tweet saying, “To celebrate 20 million subscribers, I want to plant 20 million trees. If anyone wants to help, reach out.” That’s where this ball started rolling. I ended up connecting with Mark Rober, a former NASA and Apple mechanical engineer turned YouTuber. He was able to help me iron out the details.
I was still working at Apple when he called me up. We were pacing back and forth, asking if this was something we could do. More and more people started liking and retweeting it, so it was clear there was an appetite for this.
At first, we wanted our subscribers to buy seeds and plant them in their backyards, but we realized that could lead to invasive species harming the local ecosystem. We wanted to ensure that whatever we did was responsible and would actually help the planet.
We kept working on it and eventually connected with the Arbor Day Foundation, which has planted hundreds of millions of trees. They gave us hope. Mark and I asked them if they could plant a tree for a dollar, and we thought of the slogan: “$1 equals one tree.” I donated a dollar, which would go towards planting one tree somewhere across the globe. Our goal was to plant trees on all continents except Antarctica.
Arbor Day works with local partners worldwide, emphasizing planting the right tree at the right place at the right time. We started tinkering with the name and eventually settled on “Team Trees.”
Team Trees was different from what I normally do because the point wasn’t really a video; it was literally to plant 20 million trees. We didn’t create a ton of content around Team Trees. Mark believed in it, and we knew it would take a lot of work, but if we could raise $20 million to plant 20 million trees, that would be life-changing.
We wanted to prove that the internet isn’t just all talk. If we put our minds together to make a positive change, we could actually do it. The next problem was how to raise $20 million to plant the 20 million trees. The goal was to plant them by 2020, which meant we had about two months to do it.
By making such an audacious goal and emphasizing that it would only happen if we all banded together, we started reaching out to YouTubers. I expected them not to care, but almost every single YouTuber I messaged was excited and wanted to be involved.
As we reached out to creators, we saw the same enthusiasm. We built a large group of influencers. Hundreds of creators made videos on their channels to raise money to plant trees. Team Trees was launched on October 25, 2019.
Once we put it out there, the world took it and blew it up. We had a leaderboard for top donors, starting at $10,000 and eventually reaching $100,000. Elon Musk donated a million dollars, and we ended with the top donation being over a million dollars.
The real power here is that kids who donated even a small amount are more likely to take action in their own lives, like turning off lights or recycling.
