Welcome to the Amazing Wheel of Music!

Hi there! Are you ready to have some fun with music and animals? Let’s spin the Amazing Wheel of Music and see which animal song we get to hear!

Manatee Song

Look, the wheel has stopped on the manatee! Do you know what a manatee is? It’s a big, gentle animal that swims in the ocean. Let’s sing a song about it!

♪ Manatee, manatee, swimming free, free, free. What do you like to eat? Manatees love to munch on seagrass, just like cows eat grass on land. They are called herbivores because they only eat plants, not meat.

Manatees are big and strong, and they can hold their breath underwater for a long time! They swim slowly and sometimes roll around or swim upside down. Isn’t that funny?

Do you have a favorite vegetable or fruit? Manatees might like greens and broccoli, and bananas are yummy too! Eating healthy food is good for us, just like it is for manatees.

Harbor Seal Song

Now, let’s spin the wheel again. It’s the cow’s turn! Look, it landed on the harbor seal!

♪ Harbor seal, way out to sea, likes to be alone on a rock. Harbor seals enjoy the quiet and sometimes sing their favorite songs. They are like superstars of the sea!

Harbor seals have spotted bodies and cute noses. They look friendly but often like to be by themselves. If you listen carefully, you might hear them singing from far away, singing loud and proud!

Lesson Activities

  1. Animal Movement Imitation: Let’s pretend to be manatees and harbor seals! Find a space where you can move around safely. Can you swim slowly like a manatee, rolling around or pretending to munch on seagrass? Now, try being a harbor seal. Lie down and pretend you’re resting on a rock, then sing your favorite song like a superstar of the sea. How does it feel to move like these animals?

  2. Favorite Foods Drawing: Just like manatees love seagrass and harbor seals enjoy their quiet time, think about your favorite foods and activities. Draw a picture of your favorite vegetable or fruit. Then, draw yourself doing your favorite activity. Share your drawing with a friend or family member and explain why you like these foods and activities. How are your favorites similar or different from the manatees and seals?

  3. Listening to Nature: Next time you’re outside, close your eyes and listen carefully. Can you hear any animal sounds, like birds singing or leaves rustling? Imagine you’re listening to a harbor seal singing from far away. What other sounds can you hear? Try to make your own animal sounds and see if your friends can guess which animal you are imitating. How does listening to nature make you feel?
