Hello, friends! Today, we’re going to read a fun story called “Ninja Red Riding Hood.” It’s written by Corey Rosen Schwartz and has cool pictures by Dan Santat. Let’s dive into this exciting adventure!
Once upon a time, there was a wolf who was very hungry. He tried to catch animals to eat, but they were too smart for him. This made the wolf very upset. So, he decided to learn some new tricks. He went to a special school to become a ninja! He practiced a lot and learned many new skills. Now, he felt ready to catch a meal.
One day, while walking in the forest, the wolf met Little Red Riding Hood. She was on her way to visit her grandma with a special treat. The wolf had an idea. He told Red about some pretty flowers she could pick for her grandma. While Red was busy, the wolf took a shortcut to Grandma’s house.
When the wolf got to Grandma’s house, she wasn’t there. So, he put on her robe and waited for Red. Soon, Red arrived and knocked on the door. The wolf, pretending to be Grandma, said, “Come in, dear!” But Red noticed something strange. “Grandma, your eyes look different!” she said.
The wolf tried to trick Red, but she was smart. She had also learned ninja skills! They started to have a ninja battle. Just then, they heard someone chopping wood outside. It was Grandma! She had just come back from her Tai Chi class.
Grandma shouted, “Don’t you dare hurt Red!” The wolf tried to attack, but Red was quick. She dodged and flipped the wolf onto his back. The wolf realized he couldn’t win and promised to stop eating meat.
Red and Grandma were happy they had won. Grandma even shared her peach pie with the wolf. The wolf decided to try something new. He joined a yoga class and found peace. Now, he says, “I’m just a ninja wolf doing yoga. Don’t worry, I don’t eat meat anymore!”
This story teaches us that being smart and kind is important. Even when things seem tough, we can find new ways to solve problems. And sometimes, trying something new can make us feel better!
Thanks for joining our story time! We hope you enjoyed “Ninja Red Riding Hood.” Remember, you can always learn new things and be a hero in your own way!
Ninja Moves Practice: Just like Red Riding Hood and the wolf learned ninja skills, you can practice some fun and safe ninja moves at home! Ask an adult to help you create a small obstacle course using pillows, chairs, and blankets. Try to move through the course quietly and quickly, just like a ninja. Can you think of other ninja moves you can practice, like balancing on one foot or doing a gentle roll on the floor?
Story Reenactment: Gather some friends or family members and act out the story of “Ninja Red Riding Hood.” You can take turns being different characters like the wolf, Red Riding Hood, and Grandma. Use simple props like a red scarf for Red’s cape or a robe for Grandma. As you act out the story, think about how each character feels and what they learn by the end.
Kindness Challenge: The story teaches us about being smart and kind. Think of one kind thing you can do for someone else today. It could be helping a friend, sharing a toy, or drawing a picture for someone. After you do your kind act, talk about how it made you feel and how it might have made the other person feel. Can you come up with more ways to be kind every day?

Once upon a time, a wolf couldn’t catch any prey. He kept getting outsmarted by the dinner he picked and was growing more frustrated by the day. He decided to sneak into school to be trained. He practiced for hours and mastered new skills. At last, he felt equipped to catch a good meal.
While deep in the woods, he met Little Red Riding Hood. “I’m bringing my grandma a treat,” she said. The wolf thought of a plan. “There are blossoms that way; you can pick a bouquet for your grandma.”
The wolf took a shortcut to Grandma’s house, but when he arrived, Granny was gone. He put on a robe and waited for Red. Soon after, he heard someone knocking.
“Come in! Oh, don’t you look good in your lovely red hood!” he said, trying to disguise his voice. But Little Red Riding Hood noticed something was off. “What happened to you, Grandma? Your eyes look different!”
The wolf replied, “All the better to see you, my dear!” Red continued to point out the wolf’s strange features, but just then, she revealed that she had also been trained in ninja skills.
They grappled and twisted, and it appeared they were evenly matched. Just then, they heard someone chopping wood. It was Grandma, who had just come from her Tai Chi class.
“Don’t you dare harm a hair on her head!” Grandma shouted. The wolf took a swing, but Red deftly dodged the attack and managed to throw him over her hip. The wolf ended up flat on his back.
The wolf, realizing he had been defeated, promised to give up red meat. Red and Grandma were proud of their victory. Grandma even offered the wolf half of her peach pie.
The wolf, feeling stressed, decided to try something new. He enrolled in a yoga class and found peace.
“I’m just a ninja wolf, doing lots of yoga. If you see me, don’t cross the street; I don’t eat meat anymore!”
