Hello friends!
Today, we’re going to talk about something really important: the first Sustainable Development Goal, which is “No Poverty.” But what does poverty mean? Poverty is when people don’t have enough resources to meet their basic needs. This isn’t just about not having money. It also means not having enough food, clean water, a safe place to live, or even being able to see a doctor when you’re sick.
Poverty is more than just not having money. It’s about not being able to live a happy and healthy life. Did you know that almost half of the people in the world live in poverty? That’s a lot of people!
The goal of “No Poverty” is to help end poverty everywhere and make life better for millions of people. Poverty is a problem all over the world. While it’s more common in developing countries, it also affects people in rich countries. Things like wars and natural disasters can make poverty worse. Most of the people who are poor are children and women. This is because they often don’t have access to good education or jobs. For children, not having enough food and education is a big problem.
Did you know that one in four children around the world doesn’t grow properly because they don’t get enough good food? To help fix this, the United Nations has come up with plans to support people who need it most. These plans include making sure everyone has the same chances to get things like education, healthcare, and technology.
We all need to work together to solve this problem. Even a small amount of money from the richest countries could help end extreme poverty. We should all try to help those who have less than we do.
So, how do you think you can help make a difference?
We’ve learned a lot today! If you want to learn more, there are many more videos you can watch. Check out the Smile and Learn educational channel to keep learning and having fun!
Design a colorful poster that explains what poverty is and why it’s important to end it. Use drawings, words, and facts from the article to show how poverty affects people and what we can do to help. Share your poster with the class and discuss your ideas.
In small groups, act out a short skit where you imagine a world without poverty. Think about how life would be different for children and families. What changes would you see in education, healthcare, and living conditions? Perform your skit for the class and talk about what you learned.
Choose a country and research how poverty affects people there. Find out what challenges they face and what is being done to help. Create a short presentation to share your findings with the class. Include pictures, maps, and interesting facts.
Write a letter to a local or world leader explaining why ending poverty is important. Use information from the article to support your points. Share your ideas on how they can help make a difference. You can even send your letter to see if you get a response!
Organize a small fundraiser with your classmates to support a charity that helps fight poverty. You could hold a bake sale, a craft fair, or a fun run. Plan the event together, and decide how you will use the money raised to help those in need.

Do you remember the other day I talked about the Sustainable Development Goals? Today, we’ll discuss the first one: No Poverty.
Have you ever thought about what exactly poverty is? Poverty is a situation that prevents people from meeting their basic needs due to a lack of resources. It’s not just about not having money; it also includes not having access to things that may seem basic, such as food, clean water, a home, or even a simple visit to the doctor.
Based on these factors, we can see that poverty goes beyond just a lack of income and resources. It’s a situation that results in people not having a dignified and happy life. According to data from the United Nations, almost half of the world’s population lives in these conditions. That’s a significant number of people, right?
That’s why the first Sustainable Development Goal at the international level is to end poverty around the world and improve the lives of millions. Poverty is an international issue. Although the rates of people living in extreme situations are higher in developing countries, the truth is that poverty affects men, women, and children all over the world, even in the most developed countries.
Certain situations, like war or natural disasters, contribute to an increase in the number of people living in poverty. Did you know that the majority of poor people are children and women? Factors such as limited access to education and skilled labor complicate the situation for millions of women globally. In the case of children, the lack of education and nutritional problems are very serious issues.
Did you know that one in four children around the world have stunted growth due to poor nutrition? To improve this situation, the United Nations has proposed a series of social protection measures to help the most disadvantaged people through the Sustainable Development Goals. These measures, among many others, include ensuring equal opportunities for all, such as access to basic services like education, healthcare, and even technology.
Addressing this situation requires the support of all of us as a community. Even a tiny fraction of the income of the wealthiest countries could help end the extreme poverty that the world currently faces. We must show solidarity with those who have less.
And you, how do you think you can help change the situation? [Music]
