We have a special shout-out today to Miss Cross’s third graders in Des Moines, Iowa. Thank you for sending us today’s book, “Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude” by Kevin O’Malley. We think that’s super cool!
Once upon a time, in a castle on a hill, there lived a beautiful princess named Princess Tenderheart. She had eight lovely ponies named Jasmine, Nimble, Sophie, Polly, Penny, Sunny, and Monica. Her favorite pony was Buttercup.
One night, a giant came and took Jasmine away! The other ponies were so sad, and Princess Tenderheart cried the most. The next night, the giant took Nimble and Sophie. The princess was heartbroken and didn’t want to eat.
The king tried to protect the ponies by hiring princes, but the giant kept coming back. When only Buttercup was left, a cool dude on a motorcycle arrived at the castle. He promised to protect Buttercup if the king gave him all the gold thread the princess made. The king agreed, and the dude waited for the giant.
The giant was big and scary, with rotten teeth and bad breath. He needed eight ponies for his stew, but he only had seven. When he tried to take Buttercup, the dude fought him with a big sword. The ground shook, and there was lightning and thunder!
Every night, the giant came back, but the dude always won. The princess made gold thread, and the dude became rich. One night, the princess and the dude argued about who should save the ponies. The giant heard them and got so scared that he jumped off a cliff!
The princess and the dude fell in love and got married on a beautiful spring day. They even had a baby! Was it a girl or a boy? Well, that’s up to you to decide!
Even though the story was a bit of a mess, we loved every minute of it! It was so much fun, and we hope you enjoyed it too. Thanks for joining us for Story Time!

I have a message, Craig! I want to give a big shout-out to Miss Cross’s third graders in Des Moines, Iowa, for sending us today’s book. Thanks so much, Des Moines! We think that’s pretty cool of you because today’s book is “Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude” by Kevin O’Malley.
Let’s get started!
Once upon a time, in a castle on a hill, there lived a beautiful princess named Princess Tenderheart. Every day, Princess Tenderheart would play with her eight beautiful ponies. She named them Jasmine, Nimble, Sophie, Polly, Penny, Sunny, and Monica. Her favorite pony of all was called Buttercup.
Please don’t call him Buttercup; call him Ralph or something!
Oh boy, this is going to be confusing. We just need one narrator and one story because otherwise, this is going to be a mess.
One night, a terrible thing happened: a giant came and stole away poor little Jasmine. All the other ponies cried, but Princess Tenderheart cried hardest of all. It was very sad. The very next night, the giant came and took Nimble and Sophie. Princess Tenderheart cried all day and refused to eat.
Oh please, get a grip, Princess! Her father, the king, hired all the princes he could find to protect the ponies, but night after night, another pony was stolen away. The poor princess just sat in her room and turned straw into gold thread. She cried and cried when only Buttercup was left. Princess Tenderheart thought her heart would break.
Oh, who would protect Buttercup?
That’s it! I can’t take it anymore. I’ll tell the story from here. One day, this really cool dude rides up to the castle on his motorcycle. He says he’ll guard the last pony if the king gives him all the gold thread the princess makes. The king says okay, and the dude sits and waits for the giant.
So that night, the giant heads up to the castle. Man, this giant was an ugly dude. He was big and mean, and he had four teeth in his mouth that were all rotten and yellow. His breath smelled terrible! He needs eight ponies to make a tasty pony stew, and he only has seven. So that night, he goes to steal the last pony. The dude had this really big sword, and he and the giant battled all over the place.
The earth was shaking, and there was lightning and thunder. It was huge! Night after night, the giant comes back, but the dude beats him every time. The princess makes gold thread and gives it to the dude, and he gets really rich.
What a disaster this book is! It’s gone off the rails.
Okay, we just need one narrator.
Yeah, one narrator!
It’s kind of cool, but I’d rather just be like one.
So that night, the giant comes back, and the dude and the princess get into a big fight over who gets to free the ponies. The giant hears voices and gets so scared he jumps off a cliff.
Cool! So the princess and the dude fall in love, and they get married on a beautiful spring day. Then they have a baby.
It was the most beautiful baby girl!
No, it was a boy!
Anyway, this story was a total failure. I loved every minute of it! I had a great time, even if it wasn’t what a story was supposed to be.
What a disaster! 10 out of 10 for me!
I cannot express how big a disaster this was. I’m actually going to give it a 10 out of 10 as well.
Good try, better luck next time!
Remember when you talked about a page?
Yeah, that was cool!
I think we covered this book.
Guess it’s my turn!
Right, like it’s turnip.
Oh yeah, yeah, but turnip’s kind of pretty generic.
Sorry!
