Episode 2: Choosing an Opinion Writing Topic

Do you know what an opinion is? It’s what you think or how you feel about something. Today, we’re going to think of some fun topics for opinion writing!

When we talk about opinions, we often use words like “like,” “believe,” “think,” “best,” and “favorite.” A great way to come up with opinion topics is to think about your favorite things. What do you love the most? It could be your favorite book, TV show, animal, sport, food, or anything else that makes you happy!

It’s a good idea to pick a topic that you really care about. When you choose something you love, it becomes easier to write about your opinion because you have lots to say!

For example, I’m going to write about my favorite book. I can’t wait to share my thoughts! In the next episode, we’ll see which book I choose and how I plan my writing. Stay tuned!

Fun Activity

Why not try brainstorming your own opinion topics? Grab a piece of paper and write down your favorite things. Then, pick one to write about. Have fun sharing your opinions!

  • What is something you really love, and why do you think it’s the best? Share your favorite thing and explain why it makes you happy.
  • Can you think of a time when you and a friend had different opinions about something? How did you feel, and what did you do?
  • If you could write about any topic in the world, what would it be and why? How would you share your opinion with others?
  1. Opinion Treasure Hunt: Go on a treasure hunt around your home or classroom to find items that you have strong opinions about. It could be your favorite toy, a book you love, or a snack you enjoy. Once you find an item, share with a friend or family member why it’s your favorite and what makes it special to you. This will help you practice expressing your opinions out loud!

  2. Opinion Collage: Create a collage of your favorite things using magazines, drawings, or printed pictures. Include items like your favorite animal, food, or place. Once your collage is complete, pick one item from it and write a few sentences about why it’s your favorite. This visual activity will help you organize your thoughts and make your writing more colorful!

  3. Opinion Interview: Pair up with a classmate or family member and take turns interviewing each other about your favorite things. Ask questions like “What is your favorite book and why?” or “What is the best game you’ve ever played?” Write down their answers and see if you share any similar opinions. This activity will help you learn how to ask questions and listen to others’ opinions.
