Opposites for Kids #5

Alphabets Sounds Video

share us on:

In today’s lesson, we explored the concept of opposites, which are words that have completely different meanings. We learned pairs of opposites such as front and back, big and small, long and short, bad and good, and left and right, and practiced saying them together. By understanding these pairs, we can enhance our vocabulary and comprehension of language.
  1. What is an opposite of big?
  2. Can you think of something that is long?
  3. What do we call the opposite of good?

Let’s Learn About Opposites!

Hello, friends! Today, we are going to have fun learning about opposites. Opposites are words that mean completely different things. Let’s explore some of them together!

Front and Back

Imagine you have a book. The front is where you start reading, and the back is where you finish. Front and back are opposites!

Big and Small

Think about an elephant and a mouse. An elephant is big, and a mouse is small. Big and small are opposites!

Long and Short

Picture a long snake and a short worm. The snake is long, and the worm is short. Long and short are opposites!

Bad and Good

When you do something nice, like sharing your toys, that’s good. But if you break something on purpose, that’s bad. Bad and good are opposites!

Left and Right

Hold up your hands. One is your left hand, and the other is your right hand. Left and right are opposites!

Let’s Practice Together!

Now, let’s say the opposites together in a big voice. Ready? Here we go!

Long – Short

Great job, everyone! You did it! Keep practicing, and soon you’ll know all about opposites. Thanks for learning with me today. See you next time!

  • Can you think of other opposites that we didn’t talk about in the lesson? Maybe something you see at home or at school?
  • Have you ever seen something big and something small together, like an elephant and a mouse? What was it, and how did it make you feel?
  • Why do you think it’s important to know about opposites? How can knowing opposites help you in your everyday life?
  1. Opposite Hunt: Go on a treasure hunt around your home or classroom to find pairs of objects that are opposites. For example, find something big and something small, or something long and something short. Share your findings with a friend or family member and explain why they are opposites.

  2. Opposite Art: Draw a picture that shows two opposites. You could draw a sunny day and a rainy day, or a tall tree and a short bush. Use lots of colors and details to make your opposites stand out. Share your artwork with the class and describe the opposites you chose.

  3. Opposite Storytime: Create a short story using at least three pairs of opposites. For example, tell a story about a big elephant and a small mouse who go on an adventure from the front of the jungle to the back. Share your story with a friend or family member and see if they can spot all the opposites.

Welcome back, everyone! There are many words we call opposites. We’ve explored quite a few already, but there are still some more I’d like to share with you. Here we go!
