Welcome to our exciting Trip Around the World! Today, we’re going to explore the amazing city of Paris. Let’s join Lily and Jeff as they come home from school with a special homework assignment. Their teacher asked them to learn about their family history, but they aren’t sure where to begin.
“Look, Dad! This map shows where our family comes from. We can find out where our grandparents were born and learn more about our relatives,” said Lily.
“That’s fantastic! Kids, pack your bags! With this old map and my new invention, the World Whirler, we’re going to follow our ancestors’ footsteps around the world. You’ll see how much fun homework can be!” said Dad.
“Fasten your seat belts! We’re going to Paris, the City of Light!” Dad announced.
“I’ve always wanted to visit Paris, where Grandpa Pierre was born and worked. Is it true he restored paintings at the Louvre Museum?” asked Lily.
“Yes, Lily! Grandpa Pierre also met Grandma Maria there. He fell in love with her at first sight and proposed to her at Notre Dame Cathedral,” Dad explained.
Notre Dame is a beautiful Catholic cathedral in the heart of Paris. Many important historical events happened there, and it’s also the setting of the famous story, ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame.’
“Now I understand, Dad! Grandma came to Paris to work and see the Eiffel Tower, and she ended up starting a family,” said Lily.
The Eiffel Tower is a tall iron structure built by the famous French engineer, Alexander Gustave Eiffel, for the World’s Fair in 1889. It stands proudly by the River Seine and is the tallest monument in Paris.
“That’s right, Jeff! In Spain, there weren’t many jobs, so many people had to move to other countries. Let’s take a picture to remember Paris, and then we’ll continue our journey to Murcia, Grandma’s homeland,” Dad suggested.

Create Your Family Map: Ask your parents or guardians to help you draw a map of where your family members come from. Use different colors to mark the places where your grandparents, aunts, uncles, or cousins were born. Share your map with your classmates and see if any of your family origins are similar!
Build a Mini Eiffel Tower: Gather some craft sticks, glue, and paint to create your own mini Eiffel Tower. Look at pictures of the Eiffel Tower for inspiration. Once you’re done, display it in your room and imagine you’re visiting Paris every time you see it!
Story Time with Notre Dame: Read a short story or watch a video about the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Discuss with your family or friends what you learned about the cathedral and its importance in history. Can you think of any other famous buildings that have interesting stories?
Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:
