Hello, everyone! Are you ready for a fun story? Today, we’re going to read “Pearl Power and the Girl with Two Dads.” Can you guess what this story might be about? Let’s find out together!
Pearl was super excited because a new girl was coming to her school. Pearl couldn’t wait to make a new friend to play games with and share fun times. She went to bed early, thinking, “I want to be the first to meet the new girl!”
Have you ever been the new kid at school? It can be a little scary, but it’s always nice to be friendly and make new friends feel welcome.
The next day, Pearl arrived at school with a big smile. She met Matilda, who had three missing teeth and lovely red hair. Matilda was great at climbing and running, just like Pearl! Pearl thought, “Matilda is going to be my best buddy!”
The next day, Pearl noticed something different. Matilda was saying goodbye to a different dad. Pearl was curious and asked, “Where is your mom?” Matilda explained, “I have two dads who love each other. My family is a little different.”
Pearl thought that was cool and realized that every family is special in its own way.
Pearl was excited to visit Matilda’s house. She thought it would be all fun and games with no rules. But when she got there, she was surprised! Dinner was full of healthy vegetables, and one of the dads asked her to read instead of jumping on the bed.
Pearl learned that Matilda’s house was just like hers, with rules and healthy food.
When Pearl got home, she told her mom about her visit. She realized that having two dads or two moms is just like having any other family. Every family is unique and special!
And that was the story of “Pearl Power and the Girl with Two Dads.” We hope you enjoyed it!

Hi everyone! Welcome to Story Time. How are you all today? Have you had a good day? Have you had a chance to read a book yet? If not, you can join us for “Pearl Power and the Girl with Two Dads.” Can you guess what this book is about?
Now, how many of you have two dads or two moms? It’s pretty cool, right? Some people might think it’s cool, which is exactly what this girl’s story is about. Let’s check it out!
[Applause]
Pearl was excited, and you would be too! Tomorrow, they were getting a new girl at school, and Pearl could not wait to make a new friend to play games with, share with, and borrow from. It was early to bed for Pearl that day. As soon as she’d run out of things to say, she thought, “I need a big sleep tonight so that I am the first to meet the new girl.”
Have you ever been the new girl or new boy? Do you feel nervous, or are you always nice to the new girl or boy? You should be to make them feel welcome. Pearl brushed her hair without being told and put on her coat to go out in the cold. She got on the bus without any stress or fuss.
Pearl arrived smiling, and Matilda was there! She had three missing teeth and lovely red hair. Pearl walked into the classroom, and Matilda looked glad, so she plucked up the courage to say goodbye to her dad. Matilda was great! She could climb really high without getting scared, and Pearl thought, “She’s just like me!” With a grin, she thought about how Matilda could climb and run fast and never gives in.
[Applause]
She doesn’t care when she gets all muddy. Matilda will be my best ever buddy! Pearl skipped into school the very next day just as Matilda was about to say goodbye to her dad and give him a kiss. But something was a little different. Pearl noticed right away that this dad was different from yesterday.

Pearl didn’t want to upset her friend, but she had to ask, “Where is your mom?” Matilda explained, “There isn’t a mother. I have two dads, and they love one another. A mom and a dad isn’t always the rule; my family is different.” Pearl shrugged and said, “Cool! Everyone’s different; everyone’s family is different.”
So, what is it like not having a mommy? “Dads are great, and they have stable incomes. So what do your dads do?” Matilda said that one is a builder and the other is a doctor. “They’re both really clever, and they said you can come around for tea anytime!” Pearl couldn’t wait; this was going to be fun! She had never been to a house without a mom.
Moms can be bossy, she thought to herself, always going on about safety and health. Is that right, my dear? With two cool dads, there’ll be no rules to break, and dinner is bound to be pops, sweets, and cake. I think she’s in for a surprise!
They sat at a table, and Pearl couldn’t wait, but lots of vegetables were put on her plate. “Make sure you eat up; your last green bean is full of vitamins and vital protein,” said one of the dads.
After dinner, Pearl jumped on the bed, but one of the dads asked her to read instead. There was no fizzy pop and no ice cream. This is not how it was in Pearl’s dreams.
Pearl arrived home and sat with her mom. “How was Matilda’s? Was it good fun?”
“Well, it wasn’t as cool as I thought it would be. It wasn’t all crazy, and it wasn’t carefree. I couldn’t just do what I wanted, and dinner was just one big vegetable. When I was naughty, her dads got mad. They’re really quite boring.”
“Ah, just like your parents, right? Just like you and Dad.”
And that was “Pearl Power and the Girl with Two Dads.” Who would have thought that having two dads or having two moms is just the same as everyone else? Normal! Except that every family can be different.
