Welcome to Story Time!

Hi there! I’m Ryan, and my friend here is Craig. We’re so happy you’re joining us for Story Time! Today, we’re going to read a super fun book called “Pete the Cat: Big Easter Adventure” by Kimberly and James Dean. Are you ready? Let’s get started!

Pete’s Easter Surprise

Pete the Cat was so excited because it was Easter! He couldn’t wait to get his basket full of yummy treats. Do you know what his favorite treat was? Jelly beans! Yum!

But when Pete looked in his basket, it was empty! Oh no! There was only a note from the Easter Bunny. It said, “Please help find the eggs, paint the eggs, and hide the eggs. Thanks, the Easter Bunny.”

Pete’s Bunny Costume

Pete decided to help the Easter Bunny. He put on some bunny ears and thought it was so funny! A cat with bunny ears? That’s silly!

Then, Pete went to see the chickens. “Hello, chickens! Do you have any eggs today?” he asked. The chickens said, “Sure, Pete! But don’t you need a bunny nose and a fluffy tail too?”

Pete thought that was a great idea! So, he put on a bunny nose and a fluffy tail. Now he looked just like a bunny! A cat dressed like a bunny? That’s even sillier!

Painting the Eggs

Pete was ready to paint the eggs. He hopped to the tool shed to get paint and brushes. He painted some eggs red, some blue, and some with lots of colors like green and yellow. They looked so bright and colorful!

Hiding the Eggs

After painting, Pete had a basket full of beautiful eggs. Now it was time to hide them! He had so much fun finding the perfect spots to hide each egg.

The Easter Bunny’s Visit

Just as Pete was hiding the last egg, the Easter Bunny arrived. “Great job, Pete! You were a big help,” said the Easter Bunny. He gave Pete an award that said “Number One Helper!”

Helping is Fun!

Pete learned that helping others can be lots of fun. Happy Easter, everyone! Remember, the best gift is helping others and being kind. And maybe a few jelly beans too!

  • What do you think it would be like to help the Easter Bunny like Pete did? Have you ever helped someone with a special task or project? How did it make you feel?
  • If you could paint your own Easter eggs, what colors and designs would you choose? Why do you think those colors are special to you?
  • Pete wore bunny ears, a bunny nose, and a fluffy tail to help the Easter Bunny. If you could dress up as any animal to help with a fun task, which animal would you choose and why?
  1. Egg Hunt Adventure: Organize a mini egg hunt in your backyard or living room. Hide colorful plastic eggs or paper eggs that you and your child can decorate together. Encourage your child to find the eggs and then discuss the different colors and patterns they see. Ask them, “What was your favorite egg to find and why?” This activity helps children practice observation skills and appreciate colors and patterns.

  2. Dress Like Pete: Have a fun dress-up session where your child can create their own bunny costume just like Pete. Use simple materials like paper plates for bunny ears, cotton balls for a fluffy tail, and face paint or markers for a bunny nose. Once dressed up, ask your child, “How does it feel to dress up like a bunny? What would you do if you were a bunny for a day?” This encourages imaginative play and empathy by stepping into another character’s shoes.

  3. Paint Your Own Egg: Provide your child with a hard-boiled egg or a paper cutout of an egg and some safe, washable paints. Let them paint their egg with their favorite colors and patterns. After painting, discuss with them, “Why did you choose these colors? What story does your egg tell?” This activity fosters creativity and allows children to express themselves through art.

Hi, I’m Ryan Lagod.

And I’m Craig Toby. Welcome to Story Time with Ryan Lagod and Craig Toby! Remember, if you like what you see, follow us on Instagram or visit our website, ryancraig.com. You can watch all of our read-alouds or send us a message.

Ooh, I have a message! Craig, today’s book is dedicated to the Perez family: Janet, Mario, Leslie, and Alexander from Las Vegas, Nevada. Thanks for sending us today’s book! We can’t wait to read it because today’s book is “Pete the Cat: Big Easter Adventure” by Kimberly and James Dean.

Oh yeah! Are you going to say, “Let’s get started”?

Oh yeah! Let’s get started!

“Pete the Cat: Big Easter Adventure” by Kimberly and James Dean. Oh yeah! Pete was excited; Easter was here! He couldn’t wait for his basket of goodies. Jelly beans were his favorite!

Jelly beans are awesome!

Very good! I like Skittles more.

For Easter?

I can choose whatever treat I want!

Broccoli?

Broccoli’s a treat!

Uh-oh! His basket was empty except for a note: “Please help find the eggs, paint the eggs, hide the eggs. Thanks, the Easter Bunny. P.S. Where are these?”

Pete put on the bunny ears and thought, “A cat with ears like a bunny? Now that’s funny!”

“Happy Easter, chickens! Do you have any eggs today?” Pete asked.

“I’m helping the Easter Bunny!”

“Sure, Pete! We have a lot of eggs,” the chickens said. “We are happy to help, but don’t you need a bunny nose and fluffy bunny tail?”

The chickens were right! A bunny nose and tail would be neat. Then Pete’s costume would be complete. Pete put on the nose and tail like a bunny. A cat dressed up like a bunny? Now that’s funny!

Pete was ready! It was getting late, and he still had a lot of eggs to decorate. What colors would Pete use? Hop, hop, hop off to the tool shed for paint and brushes!

Pete couldn’t wait to paint the eggs. Some eggs had one color, some eggs had two. Some eggs were red, and some eggs were blue. Red, green, yellow, blue—red again!

When the egg painting was done, Pete had a basket full of bright, colorful, amazing eggs. Now hiding them would be lots of fun!

You know what else is bright, colorful, and amazing?

Don’t say it!

Helping others is what Easter is all about, Pete said. Pete’s job was done. He was hiding the last one when the Easter Bunny arrived.

“Great job, Pete! You were a big help,” said the Easter Bunny. The Easter Bunny gave Pete an award for a job well done: “Number One Helper!”

Helping others can be lots of fun! Happy Easter, everybody! And remember, everyone, the number one gift for this holiday season is…

Let me guess—helping others?

What?

Now it’s Skittles!

Wowskittles are the gift that keeps on giving!
