Welcome to Story Time!

Hello, friends! I’m so happy you’re here for Story Time. Today, we’re going to have fun with a story about Pete the Cat. Are you ready? Let’s go!

Pete the Cat and the Snow Day Adventure

One morning, Pete the Cat wakes up and gets ready for school. But guess what? His mom tells him there’s no school today because it’s a snow day! Hooray! Pete is super excited.

Fun in the Snow

Pete decides to go sledding with his brother Bob. He puts on his hat, boots, and mittens. “I’m ready to go!” he says happily. Pete loves snow days because they’re so much fun!

On the way to the sledding hill, Pete makes snowballs and throws one at Bob. Bob throws one back, and they both laugh. Pete even builds a snow cat and thinks snow days are the best!

More Snow Day Fun

As they walk to the hill, Pete sees his friend Callie and invites her to join them. The hill looks big and exciting, and they can’t wait to sled down it.

After sledding, they visit their friend Trey for some yummy hot chocolate. Pete can’t wait to tell his classmates all about his snowy adventures.

Too Much Snow?

The next day, there’s even more snow! Pete builds a snow fort and a snow dog. He goes sledding again, but soon he feels like he’s had enough snow days.

When Pete and Bob try to open the front door, it’s hard because of all the snow. Their mom asks them to shovel the walkway. Shoveling is hard work, and Pete gets tired. He starts to miss his teacher and friends at school.

Back to School

When Pete wakes up again, it’s snowing once more. Pete really wants to go to school, so he decides to clear the streets. Other cats join him to help, and soon the streets are safe for the bus to drive. School is open, and everyone is happy to see their teacher.

During show and tell, Pete shares all the fun he had in the snow. He says, “I love snow days, but I love school best!”

What Did We Learn?

Snow days can be lots of fun, but going to school and seeing friends is special too. It’s great to enjoy both!

Thanks for joining Story Time today. I hope you had fun with Pete the Cat. See you next time!

  1. What would you do if you had a snow day like Pete? Can you think of some fun activities you would enjoy?
  2. Have you ever had a day when you couldn’t go to school because of the weather? How did you feel, and what did you do?
  3. Pete helped clear the streets so he could go back to school. Can you think of a time when you helped someone or worked together with friends to solve a problem?
  1. Snow Day Adventure Drawing: Grab some crayons and paper! Draw your favorite part of Pete’s snow day adventure. Was it sledding, building a snow cat, or having hot chocolate with friends? Share your drawing with the class and explain why you chose that moment.

  2. Snowball Math: Let’s pretend we’re making snowballs like Pete! Use cotton balls or crumpled paper to create “snowballs.” Count how many snowballs you can make. Can you group them into sets of 5 or 10? Practice adding and subtracting with your snowballs. How many do you have if you add 3 more? What if you take away 2?

  3. Weather Watch: Just like Pete, let’s observe the weather! Look outside and see what the weather is like today. Is it sunny, rainy, or snowy? Draw a picture of today’s weather and think about what activities you can do. If it’s a snow day, what fun things would you like to do?
