Welcome to the Story of Peter Rabbit!

Meet the Rabbit Family

Once upon a time, there were four little rabbits. Their names were Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter. They lived with their mother, Mrs. Rabbit, under a big, big tree.

Mrs. Rabbit’s Warning

One morning, Mrs. Rabbit said, “You can go play in the fields or down the lane, but don’t go into Mr. McGregor’s garden. Your father had an accident there. Now, be good and don’t get into trouble. I’m going to the store.”

Off to the Garden

Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail were good bunnies and went to pick blackberries. But Peter, who was a bit naughty, ran to Mr. McGregor’s garden and squeezed under the gate.

Peter’s Adventure

Peter ate some lettuce, green beans, and radishes. He started feeling sick but still looked for more food. Suddenly, he heard a voice shout, “Stop, thief!” It was Mr. McGregor!

Peter’s Escape

Peter was so scared that he ran all around the garden. He lost his shoes and got his jacket caught on a net. He cried, but he wiggled free and ran into a tool shed, hiding in a can.

Almost Caught!

Mr. McGregor looked for Peter in the shed. When Peter sneezed, Mr. McGregor almost found him! Peter ran out of a window, and Mr. McGregor couldn’t follow.

Home Sweet Home

Peter ran and ran until he got home to the big tree. He was so tired that he flopped down and closed his eyes.

Dinner Time

Mrs. Rabbit made bread, milk, and blackberries for dinner. Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail enjoyed the meal, but Peter was too tired from his adventure. He slept through dinner and all night long.

The End

What a day Peter had! Remember, always listen to your parents and stay out of trouble!

  • Why do you think Peter decided to go into Mr. McGregor’s garden even though his mother warned him not to? Have you ever done something you were told not to do? What happened?
  • How do you think Peter felt when he was running away from Mr. McGregor? Can you think of a time when you felt scared or excited during an adventure?
  • What would you have done if you were one of Peter’s siblings, like Flopsy, Mopsy, or Cottontail? Would you have tried to help Peter, or would you have stayed away from the garden?
  1. Garden Adventure Role Play: Gather some props like hats, baskets, and toy vegetables. Encourage the children to act out the story of Peter Rabbit. Let them take turns being Peter, Mr. McGregor, and the other rabbits. Ask them to think about how Peter felt during his adventure and what he learned. This activity helps children understand the story through role play and empathy.

  2. Draw Your Own Garden: Provide paper, crayons, and markers for the children to draw their own version of Mr. McGregor’s garden. Ask them to include what they think Peter might have seen or eaten. Encourage them to add their favorite vegetables or fruits. This activity allows children to use their imagination and connect with the story by creating their own visual representation.

  3. Discussion Time: Ask the children some questions to spark a conversation: “Why do you think Peter went into the garden even though his mother told him not to?” “What would you do if you were Peter?” “How do you think Peter felt when he got home?” These questions encourage critical thinking and help children relate the story to their own experiences.

**The Tale of Peter Rabbit** by Beatrix Potter, adapted by Kiana Martinez.

Once upon a time, there were four little rabbits. Their names were Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter. They lived with their mother, Mrs. Rabbit, underneath a very big tree.

“Now, my dears,” said Mrs. Rabbit one morning, “you may go into the fields or down the lane, but don’t go into Mr. McGregor’s garden. Your father had an accident there; he was put into a pie by Mrs. McGregor. Now run along and don’t get into trouble. I am going to the store.”

Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail, who were good little bunnies, went down the lane to pick blackberries. But Peter, who was very naughty, ran right to Mr. McGregor’s garden and squeezed under the gate.

First, he ate some lettuce and green beans. Then he ate some radishes. Peter started feeling sick, but still, he went to look for parsley and cucumbers. Suddenly, he heard a voice: “Stop, thief!” It was Mr. McGregor. Peter was so scared that he ran all over the garden, forgetting his way back to the gate. He lost one of his shoes in the cabbage and left the other shoe in the potatoes.

Peter ran even faster. He almost got away until his jacket got caught on a gooseberry net. Peter began to cry. Mr. McGregor rushed over to try and catch Peter, but Peter wiggled himself free, leaving his jacket behind. He rushed into the tool shed and jumped into a can. Mr. McGregor looked all around the tool shed; he knew that Peter was hiding in there somewhere. As Mr. McGregor searched underneath the flower pot, Peter let out a sneeze. Peter knew that he had been found, so he took off running again as Mr. McGregor chased him.

Peter jumped out of the window. The window was too small for Mr. McGregor, so he decided to let Peter go. Later, as Peter tried to find his way home, he saw a white cat sitting by the pond. Peter had heard scary stories about cats from his cousin Benjamin, so he quickly ran the other way.

Who did he run into? None other than Mr. McGregor! He shouted, “I’ll catch you this time, thief!” But Peter took off faster than ever. He never looked back or stopped running until he made it home to the big tree. He was so tired that he flopped down onto the nice soft sand and shut his eyes.

Mrs. Rabbit was busy making bread, milk, and blackberries for dinner. Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail enjoyed the delicious meal, but Peter Rabbit was too tired from his long day of mischief. He slept past dinner and all through the night.

The end.
