Hello, friends! I’m Creativity, and I’m here with my buddy Ryan Lagaan. We’re so excited to share a fun story with you today. If you enjoy our stories, you can find more on our website or say hello to us on Instagram!
Before we start, we want to give a big thank you to Mrs. Little and the students at Cold Spring Elementary for sending us today’s book. You guys are amazing!
Our story today is called “Johnny Bananas” by Aaron Blobby. It’s all about some interesting fish called piranhas. Let’s dive in!
Piranhas are fish that live in rivers in South America. They have sharp teeth and love to eat meat. But guess what? They don’t eat fruit, especially bananas!
In the story, someone asks the piranhas if they want a banana. But the piranhas say, “No way! We don’t eat fruit!” They prefer meat instead.
Someone else suggests they try other fruits like plums and apples. But the piranhas still say, “No, thank you! We are piranhas, and we eat meat!”
Did you know bananas are a yummy fruit that grows on big plants? They have a soft inside and a yellow peel. Lots of animals like monkeys and people enjoy bananas, but not piranhas!
Bananas can be slippery, which might be why piranhas stay away from them. Piranhas are smart and know what they like to eat!
Even though the piranhas tried the fruit platter, they still liked meat the best. It’s fun to try new things, but it’s okay to have favorites too!
Thanks for joining us for story time! Remember, trying new things can be fun, and learning about different animals is always exciting. See you next time!
Fruit Taste Test: Gather a variety of fruits like bananas, apples, and plums. Have a taste test with your family or friends. Try each fruit and describe the taste, texture, and smell. Which one is your favorite? Why do you think the piranhas in the story didn’t like these fruits?
Draw Your Favorite Meal: Just like the piranhas have their favorite food, think about what your favorite meal is. Draw a picture of it and share it with your class or family. What makes it your favorite? Is it the taste, the smell, or something else?
Animal Diet Detective: Choose an animal you like and find out what it eats. Does it eat plants, meat, or both? Draw a picture of the animal and its food. Share your findings with your friends. How is this animal’s diet different from the piranhas in the story?

I have something to say, Ryan! I want to give a shout-out to Mrs. Little and the students at Cold Spring Elementary for sending today’s book. You guys are awesome! Thanks for sending it; we can’t wait to read it!
Today’s book is “Johnny Bananas” by Aaron Blobby. Let’s get started!
“Johnny Bananas” is about piranhas, which are freshwater fish that live in South American rivers. They are known for their sharp teeth, powerful jaws, and their enormous appetite for meat. Piranhas will happily eat a variety of things, but they don’t eat fruit, especially bananas.
Hey there, guys! Would you like a banana? What’s wrong with you, Brian? You’re a piranha! We just learned that piranhas don’t eat fruit.
Maybe you should try it; who knows, you might like it! No, they said they don’t eat it. That’s one thing they don’t eat!
How about some silverbeet? Are you serious? We eat meat!
Well, I bet you’d like some juicy plums. That’s not what I meant! Just because someone is down and out doesn’t mean they can’t pick themselves up.
That’s not what they mean by “bum.”
We don’t eat apples, beans, or greens. We don’t eat melons or bananas, and the reason is simple: we are piranhas!
Well, I think that’s silly. Food is the best!
Okay, I’ll stop then. You’ll hear no more chatter, but only if you try my awesome fruit platter!
So, what do you think, guys? Is it yucky or yum?
It’s very nice, Brian, but we still prefer meat!
The banana is a long, curved, edible fruit grown on large flowering plants. They grow in clusters, generally in tropical and subtropical areas, and have soft, pulpy flesh with yellow skin when ripe. Bananas are often enjoyed by monkeys, chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, gibbons, and people who don’t mind the gooey texture.
On the other hand, they’re almost never eaten by South American river fish, especially piranhas. Please note that the skin of a banana can be very slippery, which is possibly why piranhas avoid them.
Piranhas are intelligent enough to avoid dangerous fruits when they see them.
