We can put ten of the longs together and trade them for one hundred. Then, we take the other ten longs and trade them for another hundred. So, instead of counting 20 longs, we can just count two hundreds: 100, 200. Isn’t that much easier?
What about 30 long blocks? How much is that worth? Let’s find out! If each long is worth 10, we can count each long as 10, just like before.
