Hi everyone! How are you today? Is it sunny, rainy, or cloudy where you are? It’s a beautiful day here, and I’m excited to read a fun story with you. Let’s dive into the book “Poe Won’t Go” by Kelly DiPucchio!
One morning, the people of Prickly Valley woke up to find a big surprise. An elephant named Poe was sitting right in the middle of their only road! No one knew how he got there, but he was causing a big traffic jam. Cars honked, people shouted, and even a policeman gave him a ticket, but Poe just wouldn’t move!
The townspeople tried everything to make Poe go. They banged pots, played loud music, and even danced around him. But Poe still wouldn’t budge. The crowd got bigger and louder, trying all sorts of tricks like bringing in mice and clowns, but nothing worked.
Then, the mayor came and said, “We can’t have an elephant blocking our road!” She made lots of plans, but none of them worked either. Everyone was out of ideas.
Finally, a girl named Marigold asked, “Has anyone asked Poe why he won’t go?” The mayor said, “We don’t speak elephant!” But Marigold said, “I can try!” She listened closely to Poe and found out he was waiting for a friend who was late.
Everyone was surprised, but then a reporter joked, “Maybe Poe is sitting on his friend!” And just like that, Poe stood up and left with his friend. I wonder where they went!
Wasn’t that a cute story? If you liked it, you can find a copy of the book to read anytime you want!
Now, let’s read another story called “Kindness is My Superpower” by Alicia Ortega. It’s all about a boy named Lucas who learns how amazing it is to be kind.
Lucas is just a regular boy who loves sweets and playing with his toy, Teddy. One day, he was in a bad mood and teased his friend Lisa for wearing glasses, which made her cry. Lucas felt bad when his mom told him that hurting others is wrong.
His mom explained that being kind means saying nice words, helping others, and showing respect. Lucas decided he wanted to be kind, so he started by saying thank you to his mom and helping his friends at school.
He apologized to Lisa, shared his crayons, and helped a new boy find his classroom. Lucas found out that being kind made him feel happy inside!
Lucas continued to be kind by helping his mom, picking up trash, and even helping an old lady cross the street. He realized that kindness is like magic because it makes everyone feel good.
Lucas learned that when you are kind, kindness comes back to you. Isn’t that wonderful? Kindness can be your superpower too!
If you enjoyed this story, you can find a copy to read whenever you like. Remember, being kind is magical!

Elephant Observation Walk: Take a walk around your neighborhood or a nearby park with an adult. Look for things that are big like Poe the elephant. Can you find a big tree, a tall building, or a large rock? Talk about how these big things might be like Poe sitting in the road. How do they change the way people move around them?
Kindness Jar Activity: Create a “Kindness Jar” at home. Every time you do something kind, like helping a friend or saying something nice, write it on a small piece of paper and put it in the jar. At the end of the week, read all the kind things you did. How did being kind make you feel? Did it make others happy too?
Role-Playing Game: With a friend or family member, act out different situations where you can show kindness. For example, pretend one of you is Lucas and the other is Lisa. Practice saying kind words and helping each other. How does it feel to be kind? What are some other ways you can show kindness at school or at home?

“Poe Won’t Go”
One morning, the good people of Prickly Valley awoke to find an elephant sitting smack dab in the middle of the only road in town. How he got there was a mystery. His name was Poe. It didn’t take long for a traffic jam to form around the uninvited elephant. Horns honked, people yelled from their cars, and a policeman wrote him a ticket, but Poe wouldn’t go.
So the good people of Prickly Valley took to banging pots and pans to show him away. They blew trombones and blasted megaphones. They tugged and tickled and tap danced, but Poe wouldn’t go. The crowd grew larger and louder. People begged, “Please, please!” and “Oh, geez!” and “Bribe cheese!” but Poe still wouldn’t go.
As the day wore on, the townspeople grew more clever. They brought in mice and magnets and motivational speakers, copters and cranes, and clowns with horns and squeakers. But there wasn’t a pastor or plow in town who knew how to get Poe to go—not even the amazing Carl could make the elephant disappear.
Finally, the mayor arrived on the scene. “We do not tolerate part pachyderms in Prickly Valley!” she proclaimed. The mayor formed committees and councils, hatched plans, drew diagrams, and drank coffee from Styrofoam cups. By late afternoon, the entire town of Prickly Valley and the neighboring village of Ottersville all lined up behind the stubborn elephant.
Remarkably, that plan fell as well as did this one, and that one—nope, nothing doing. Seriously, “Catch Me If You Can!” Poe, the townspeople were fresh out of ideas, and Poe… well, you know.
A girl named Marigold approached the mayor. “Excuse me, ma’am, has anyone asked Poe why he won’t go?”
“Ask him, child. The good people of Prickly Valley do not speak elephant.”
“Well, anyone can speak elephant if they just listen hard enough,” said Marigold, who was fluent in both kitten and hedgehog. The girl climbed the ladder, pressed her ear to Poe’s forehead, and closed her eyes. Marigold concentrated.
A minute passed before she addressed the crowd. “He said he’s waiting for a friend,” she announced, “and his friend is very late.”
“Preposterous!” a townsman exclaimed. “You’re making that up!”
A news reporter chimed in, “Hey kid, can you ask the elephant if by any chance his friend is wearing a polka dot tie?”
Marigold leaned into the elephant for a second time.
“Someone remove that silly girl!” the mayor snapped. “It’s getting late, and this is a waste of precious time!”
“Wait!” Gold interrupted the mayor’s rant. “He said it’s possible.”
The news reporter chuckled, “Well then, it’s possible this elephant is sitting on his friend!”
And just like that, Poe got up and he went with his friend. I wonder where they’ll go!
And that was “Poe Won’t Go.” That was so cute, don’t you think? If you enjoyed this book and would like to own your own copy, the links to purchase it are in the description below.

Today we have a book called “Kindness is My Superpower” by Alicia Ortega. Let’s get started, shall we?
“Kindness is My Superpower”
I’m Lucas, just an ordinary boy, and this is Teddy, my favorite toy. I like to eat sweets, jellies, and cakes, but sometimes I make some mistakes. You see, yesterday I was in a very bad mood, so sadly I did something extremely rude. I teased my friend Lisa for wearing glasses; I made her cry for the rest of her classes.
When I got home, I was greeted by my mom. I was sad to see her face looking glum. “Honey, you made your friend Lisa cry. Hurting people’s feelings is wrong. Do you know why?”
“You should always be kind,” my dear mother said. I knew what I’d done wrong, so I bowed my head.
“What does it mean to be kind?” I implored. Mom hugged me tightly, and when she did, my heart soared.
“Kindness is shown when you say a gentle word. Be kind to your sister and even a bird. You can be kind to someone who makes you mad; you can be kind to someone who is feeling sad. Be kind and respect those who are older than you. Show respect and kindness to younger ones too. Kindness is shown helping someone in need, and kindness is shown when you do a good deed.”
I pondered her words and couldn’t sleep all night. I wanted to be kind and genuinely polite. So right then and there, without any warning, I decided to become very kind in the morning.
And in the morning, the first thing I did when Mom made me breakfast was tell her thank you. I changed out of my pajamas, warm, soft, and red. I put away my toys and made my own bed. On the bus, I behaved the best I could be. I even asked the new boy to sit next to me at school. I helped him find his classroom too. I knew it was the very least I could do.
I said good morning to all my friends. I even shared my brand new crayons and pens. Then I saw Lisa; her eyes still looked sad. I approached her slowly, still feeling bad. “I’m sorry I teased you,” I said with a pen.
Lisa gave me a smile. “It’s okay,” she said.
I realized that kindness is really super cool! So I was kind when I got out of school. Outside, I waited my turn on the slide, and you know what? I felt good and happy inside. I was patient and kind, not angry at all, and I even found joy helping a boy find his ball. I picked up the rubbish even though it wasn’t mine. Kindness and doing good deeds made my heart shine.
I love going shopping with Mom to buy food. Holding open doors put me in such a good mood. And after we bought my favorite toy and a treat, Mom and I helped an old lady cross the street.
I continued to be kind with joy and with glee, watching my dog fall asleep in front of the TV. He was sleeping on the sofa instead of his bed, so I covered him with a blanket and kissed his forehead. I helped my little sister tie her shoelace. I was glad to see the big smile on her face.
Being kind is amazing for everyone’s sake, like giving your neighbor a yummy piece of cake. I’d like to help mine water his flowers. It really seems kindness has magical powers.
I no longer do mean things like before. I don’t tease others, and I don’t slam the door. I stop being selfish, and I share all my toys. I don’t shout out loud or make much noise. Kindness is something anyone can learn. Give to others and ask nothing in return. Helping others is simply the best thing to do. When you are kind, kindness comes back to you.
And that was “Kindness is My Superpower.” Is kindness your superpower too? Have you been kind to your brother or sister and your parents? Kindness is magical!
