Quizizz: A Game-Changer in Educational Tools

Hello, fellow learners! As the school year winds down, it’s the perfect time to explore new tools that can enhance your teaching experience. Today, we’re diving into one of our favorite educational apps: Quizizz. This platform has recently taken the spotlight in the realm of quiz and game show apps, and we’re excited to share why it’s become a top choice for educators.

Why Quizizz Stands Out

Quizizz has recently climbed to the top of our curated list of educational tools, surpassing even well-known platforms like Quizlet. This shift is due to the significant improvements and features that Quizizz now offers, making it an exceptional tool for classroom engagement.

Free vs. Paid Versions

Quizizz offers both free and paid versions. The free version is great for basic quizzes, though it includes ads. The paid version, at $9.99 per month, removes ads and unlocks additional features that can greatly enhance your teaching experience. If you frequently use quizzes and interactive lessons, the investment is worthwhile.

Interactive Features

Quizizz provides two main options: traditional quizzes and an innovative lesson format. This lesson format allows you to create interactive presentations by importing slides from Google Drive or PDFs. You can choose from various slide formats, such as text, title, media, and quiz questions. For those with upgraded accounts, audio and video response options are available, offering a richer interactive experience.

Enhanced Learning Opportunities

With Quizizz, you can incorporate audio or video responses, instructional videos, and poll questions into your lessons. Students can even upload images to demonstrate their work, which is particularly beneficial for subjects like math and science. The platform includes a comprehensive equation editor, adjustable time limits, and the ability to provide custom feedback, all of which contribute to a more engaging learning environment.

Expanding Educational Horizons

Quizizz is evolving towards creating fully interactive lessons, similar to platforms like Nearpod or Pear Deck. It also boasts a vast library of pre-existing lessons and content that you can customize for your own teaching needs. This transformation from a simple quiz creator to a comprehensive educational tool is why we now consider Quizizz the best in its class.

Conclusion

If you haven’t explored Quizizz recently, now is the time to do so. It’s a formidable competitor to Quizlet and Kahoot, offering unique features that can greatly benefit your teaching strategies. While the cost may be a consideration for some schools, the value it provides in terms of lesson planning and student engagement is significant.

Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Hello friends! How are you? You are in the home stretch! I know that if you are watching this in May, then school is coming to a close.

Wait, you can’t see my hands. There we go! Just rowing in a boat—there are no children around, just you and whatever else you need. Here we are, calm. You’re very close.

You know who we are: I’m Chrissy, and that’s Tanner. We’re here to help you and to tell you about cool tools that you might be able to use in your classroom. We are coming to you, of course, from Common Sense Education, and we are here every single Tuesday, give or take a week here and there—mostly every single Tuesday.

Now, Tanner, what do you have for us?

We’re going to talk about quizzes. This is at quizzes.com. This one is significant because it’s prompted by an update to one of our best-in-category curations. These are selections we make of the best of the best within really popular genres or categories. We try to evaluate all the tools in a category and select one that we think would be the best for your classroom—the one you should really take a look at. We’re trying to save you time.

Quizzes recently took the top spot in our quiz and game show apps as of May 12th, 2022. It was an upset! Quizlet used to be in the top spot, but we found that Quizzes has evolved significantly, and we really do think it’s the best in class right now for most people.

We have an updated Quizzes review you can take a look at on Common Sense Education, which goes into the full details of why we think it’s a great tool. I’m just going to showcase the main reason why it jumped up for us into the top slot.

There is a free and paid version of Quizzes. The free version is sufficient if you’re comfortable with ads and just want to run basic quizzes. However, the paid version, which removes ads, also adds some functionality that makes it a standout tool. The good news is that it’s only $9.99 per month, which gets you everything you need. It’s probably worth the money if you’re running a lot of quizzes and interactive lessons.

When you go to Quizzes, you have two options: the quiz, which is your typical Kahoot-style game show quiz for a quick check of understanding, and they’ve also added a lesson format, which I think is pretty extraordinary.

You have a nice selection of backgrounds to choose from. For example, you can import slides from Google Drive or a PDF. There are different slide formats available, including blank text, title, webpage media, and quiz questions. Notably, audio and video response options are only available for the upgraded account.

You can add opportunities for students to post audio or video responses in the slide deck you create. There are some extraordinary possibilities here, such as adding an instructional video or a poll question, and you can even have students upload images to show their work if you have the upgraded account.

This is particularly great for math and science, and they have a full equation editor now as well. You can adjust time limits, and after students submit their responses, you can add your own custom feedback or clarification about the correct answer, which enhances the learning experience.

Quizzes is moving in an exciting direction towards creating fully interactive lessons, similar to tools like Nearpod or Pear Deck. They also have a great library of existing lessons and content that you can browse, which allows you to draw from a wealth of ready-made questions to modify for your own lessons.

When we first looked at Quizzes, they didn’t have any of this lesson creation functionality, just a quiz creator. They’ve responded to our critiques and have really transformed into what we now view as the best-in-class tool for quizzing.

We highly recommend checking out Quizzes, especially if you haven’t visited recently. This tool is giving Quizlet and Kahoot a run for their money. While $10 a month may be prohibitive for some schools, it’s relatively doable, especially for creating sub plans or having lessons ready to go.

Thank you so much, Tanner! As always, we shall be back. Please visit us at Common Sense Education to check out all of our resources. If you sign up for our newsletter, you will receive timely tips and suggestions.

We would love to get your feedback and create resources that are really useful for you. We hope you come back and see us again. Hang in there; you’re doing great!
