In this lesson about rainforest animals, students explore the diverse wildlife that inhabits this warm and wet environment. They learn about various animals, including deer, monkeys, snakes, spiders, parrots, tigers, and frogs, highlighting their unique behaviors and habitats. The lesson also encourages students to think about other animal habitats beyond the rainforest, such as oceans and deserts.
  1. What animals did we meet in the rainforest?
  2. What do you think a monkey likes to do in the trees?
  3. Can you name another place where animals live besides the rainforest?

Rainforest Animals

Welcome to the rainforest! It’s a special place where it’s warm and wet all year long. That’s why it’s called a rainforest, because it gets lots and lots of rain!

Who Lives in the Rainforest?

The rainforest is a busy home for many animals. Let’s meet some of them!

Deer

Look, there’s a deer! It walks quietly through the trees, looking for yummy plants to eat.

Monkeys

Monkeys are having so much fun! They swing from tree to tree, playing games with their friends.

Snake

Watch out for the snake! It slithers on the ground, moving smoothly through the leaves.

Spider

Here’s a spider! It spins a web to catch its food. Spiders are great at making webs!

Parrot

Look up! There’s a colorful parrot. It loves to fly high in the sky and chat with its friends.

Tiger

Wow, a tiger! It has beautiful stripes and is very strong. Tigers like to explore the rainforest.

Frog

Ribbit! A frog is hopping around. It loves the rain and jumps from leaf to leaf.

More Rainforest Friends

There are so many more animals in the rainforest! Can you think of any other animals that might live there?

Where Else Do Animals Live?

Animals live in lots of different places, not just the rainforest. Some live in the ocean, some in the desert, and some in your backyard!

Goodbye, butterfly! Thanks for learning with us today!

  • What is your favorite animal from the rainforest, and why do you like it? Can you think of any other animals that might live in the rainforest?
  • Have you ever seen any of these animals in real life, maybe at a zoo or in a book? What did you notice about them?
  • Imagine you are an animal living in the rainforest. Which animal would you be, and what would your day look like?
  1. Animal Movement Imitation: Let’s pretend to be rainforest animals! Can you move like a monkey swinging from tree to tree or a snake slithering on the ground? Try to imitate the movements of different animals mentioned in the article. This will help you understand how each animal moves and why they move that way in the rainforest.

  2. Rainforest Sound Hunt: Close your eyes and imagine you are in the rainforest. What sounds do you hear? Is it the chirping of a parrot or the ribbit of a frog? Now, go outside and listen for sounds in your environment. Can you hear birds, insects, or other animals? Discuss with a friend or family member how these sounds are similar or different from the rainforest sounds.

  3. Rainforest Animal Art: Choose your favorite rainforest animal from the article and create a piece of art about it. You can draw, paint, or even make a collage using materials you find around your home. Think about the colors and patterns of the animal, like the stripes of a tiger or the bright feathers of a parrot. Share your artwork with your class and explain why you chose that animal.
