Hello, friends! Today, we’re going to have a fun story time together. Are you ready? Let’s get started!
Our story is about a very special owl named Hoot Owl. Hoot Owl is not just any owl; he is a master of disguise. That means he can dress up and pretend to be different things!
Hoot Owl is very hungry, and he flies through the night sky looking for something to eat. He sees a yummy rabbit and thinks, “I want to eat that rabbit!” But Hoot Owl is clever. He decides to dress up as a carrot to trick the rabbit. Isn’t that funny?
Next, Hoot Owl sees a fluffy lamb. He wants to eat the lamb, so he dresses up as a mother sheep. But guess what? It doesn’t work! Hoot Owl is still hungry.
Then, Hoot Owl spots a pigeon. He thinks, “I will dress up as a birdbath to catch the pigeon.” But that doesn’t work either! Poor Hoot Owl is still hungry.
Finally, Hoot Owl sees a delicious pizza. Yum! He dresses up as a waiter in a pizza restaurant. This time, his disguise works perfectly! Hoot Owl gets to eat the pizza, and he is very happy.
After eating the pizza, Hoot Owl is tired but satisfied. He flies back into the night sky, ready to rest until his next adventure.
Wasn’t that a fun story? Hoot Owl is so clever and funny with all his disguises!
Thank you for joining us for story time. We hope you enjoyed the adventures of Hoot Owl. If you want to hear more stories, come back and see us again. Goodbye for now!
Dress-Up Fun: Let’s pretend to be like Hoot Owl and try on different disguises! Gather some simple dress-up clothes or costumes, like hats, scarves, or masks. Can you pretend to be a different animal or character? Show your friends or family your disguise and see if they can guess what you are pretending to be. Talk about why Hoot Owl’s disguises were funny and what made them work or not work.
Animal Observation: Go on a short walk or look out the window to spot different animals or birds. What do you see? Imagine if you were Hoot Owl, what disguise would you use to get close to that animal? Draw a picture of your disguise idea and share it with your class or family. Discuss how animals use camouflage in real life to hide or hunt.
Creative Storytelling: Create your own adventure for Hoot Owl! Think of a new food Hoot Owl might want to eat and what disguise he could use to get it. Draw a picture or write a short story about Hoot Owl’s new adventure. Share your story with your friends or family and see what creative ideas they come up with too!

Watch out! I am Hoot Owl, and I am hungry, and here I come!
The darkness of midnight is all around me, but I fly through it as quick as a shooting star. I have a big fan of Hoot Owl—me! He’s cool! No, like a really big family. I want to be just like him.
And look, there’s a tasty rabbit for me to eat! Soon my sharp beak will be gobbling the rabbit up. Everyone knows owls are wise, but as well as being wise, I am a master of disguise.
I organized a costume! Look, I disguise myself as a delicious carrot. It is the perfect way to catch a rabbit.
I wait. Ryan, what are you doing?
I’m a master of disguise! Craig, can you tell what I am?
Are you the book?
Yes! See how good I am?
Yeah, you’re great! Can we keep reading it though?
Yes! It doesn’t work. Never mind. I am Hoot Owl, I am hungry, and here I come!
The night has a thousand eyes, and two of them are mine. I swoop through the bleak blackness like a wolf in the air.
And look, there’s a juicy little lamb standing helpless in the cool of the night. The lamb is a cuddly thing, but soon I will be eating it.
Everyone knows owls are wise, but as well as being wise, I am a master of disguise.
I organized a costume! Look, I disguise myself as a soft and fluffy mother sheep. It is the perfect way to catch a lamb.
I wait. Craig, do you know what I am?
Are you a blue shirt?
That is right! What’s your plan here?
Someone is going to wear me accidentally.
Cool! Can we keep reading the book?
That’s hardly here.
Yeah, that was a really good disguise!
It doesn’t work, but still, I am Hoot Owl, I am hungry, and here I come!
The terrible silence of the night spreads everywhere, but I cut through it like a knife.
And look, there’s a delicious pigeon standing, trembling in case a dangerous creature of the dark, such as an owl, may be passing by.
In a matter of moments, the pigeon will be in my tummy!
Everyone knows owls are wise, but as well as being wise, I am a master of disguise.
I organized a costume! Look, I disguise myself as an ornamental birdbath. It is the perfect way to catch a pigeon.
I wait. Craig, do you know what I am?
Yeah, you’re a blanket!
Your yellow blanket!
That is correct!
Right, we need to get going on this. Can we please?
No, Ryan, you’re just the yellow blanket.
Can we keep reading the book?
Okay, are you hot?
You must be hot, so I got it!
It doesn’t work, but never mind. I am Hoot Owl, I am very, very hungry, and here I come!
The shadowy night stretches away forever, as black as burnt toast. And look, there is a mouth-watering pizza! My eyes glitter because I am sure the pizza will be mine.
Everyone knows owls are wise, but as well as being wise, I am a master of disguise.
I organized a costume! Look, I disguise myself as a waiter in a pizza restaurant. It is the perfect way to catch a pizza.
I wait.
Catching a pizza with the disguise—that’s so perfect!
I know, right? It’s like the perfect disguise!
It’s so good that anywhere except his mouth!
Yeah, but you and I could do that.
Be easy!
Not as well as Hoot Owl, the master!
I’ve learned everything from here!
Yeah, I said I heard you!
What is reattachment?
The disguise works! The pizza does not move! They don’t call me master of disguise for nothing!
I eat the pizza with my deadly dangerous beak. It is Italian sausage flavor. The last bite is as good as the first.
Then, tired but satisfied, I transform myself back into plain Hoot Owl. I disappear into the dark enormity of the night.
I am gone, and the world can sleep again until Hoot Owl returns.
Can you guess who I am?
Are you the couch?
Yep, you got it!
Wow, master of disguise!
Yeah, please get up!
Oops, sorry!
Thank you!
