Story Time with Ryan and Craig

Hello, friends! Welcome to Story Time with Ryan and Craig! Today, we have a special story to share with you. It’s called “Pete the Cat Saves Christmas,” written by Eric Litwin and illustrated by James Dean. Are you ready for some fun? Let’s dive into the story!

Pete the Cat Saves Christmas

It was the day before Christmas, and Santa wasn’t feeling well. He had a bad cold and was worried about delivering all the presents. Oh no! What would happen to Christmas?

But don’t worry! Santa had a great idea. He called Pete the Cat to help him out. Pete was ready to save the day! Even though Pete is small, he knows that at Christmas, we give it our all!

Pete’s Adventure Begins

Pete jumped into his minibus and shouted, “Road trip!” His first stop was the North Pole, where the reindeer were waiting to help him. Pete packed up the presents and off they went, flying through the sky just like in a movie!

As they flew, Pete and his friends saw the moon shining bright. It was so cool! Pete was excited and said, “This is totally groovy, dude!”

Delivering Christmas Joy

While all the children were sleeping, Pete and the reindeer flew over their houses. Pete slid down the chimneys and delivered gifts to everyone on Santa’s list. He was quick as a flash!

Even though Pete felt small, he knew that giving is what Christmas is all about. So, he gave it his all and made sure every child got their present.

The Last House

Finally, Pete reached the last house just in time. He was as quiet as a mouse, making sure not to wake anyone up. There was even a little mouse and a duck there, but we can’t talk about the duck!

As the sun began to rise on Christmas Day, Pete and the reindeer flew back to the North Pole. Santa and all the elves were waiting to celebrate!

Thank You, Pete!

Santa was so happy and thanked Pete for his help. “Small is cool!” Santa said. Pete was proud and cheered, “I did it! I gave it my all!”

And that’s how Pete the Cat saved Christmas. Remember, even if you’re small, you can do big things by giving it your all!

  1. What do you think it means to “give it your all,” like Pete did in the story? Can you think of a time when you gave it your all to help someone or do something special?
  2. How do you think Pete felt when he was asked to help Santa? Have you ever been asked to help with something important? How did it make you feel?
  3. Why do you think giving is an important part of Christmas, as Pete learned in the story? Can you think of ways you can give to others, even if you are small?
  1. Role-Play Adventure: Gather some props like a small bag, a hat, and a toy vehicle. Pretend to be Pete the Cat and go on a Christmas adventure around the classroom or home. Imagine delivering gifts to different places. How does it feel to help others? What would you say to Santa when you finish?

  2. Creative Crafting: Create your own mini sleigh using recycled materials like cardboard, paper, and string. Decorate it with colors and stickers. Imagine what gifts you would put in your sleigh to deliver to your friends or family. Share your sleigh with the class and explain why giving is important to you.

  3. Observation and Sharing: Look around your home or school and find examples of people helping each other, just like Pete helped Santa. Draw a picture or write a short story about what you saw. Why is it important to help others, especially during special times like Christmas?

Today’s book is “Pete the Cat Saves Christmas” by Eric Litwin, illustrated by James Dean. I’m so excited!

Yeah, let’s get started!

“Pete the Cat Saves Christmas” by Eric Litwin, illustrated by James Dean.

It was the day before Christmas, and Santa was feeling ill in the cold winter wind. He had caught a bad chill.

Ryan: Does Santa look weird to you?

Craig: Oh, because of the thermometer?

Ryan: No, the glasses.

Craig: No, he looks like a cat. I think it’s the beard that’s throwing you off.

Ryan: No, I look like a cat. I don’t see it. Must be something wrong with my eyes. How many fingers am I holding up?

Craig: That’s your hand!

Ryan: Oh right, four.

Will Christmas be canceled? Will it come to that? Never! cried Santa. Let’s call Pete the Cat!

[Music]

Santa asked Pete to deliver the toys to all the good girls and boys.

Pete: I’ll do it! And although I’m small, at Christmas we give, so I’ll give it my all!

Pete jumped in his minibus and started to roll.

Pete: Road trip!

First stop: the North Pole!

[Music]

The reindeer were waiting to give Pete a tow, so he packed up the presents and told them to go. Then the minibus flew just like in a movie!

Pete the Cat: This is totally groovy, dude!

Did you see what they’re flying by?

Craig: Yeah, that’s so cool!

Pete: Let’s say it on three! One, two, three… cheese!

Craig: What’d you say?

Pete: The moon!

Craig: I said the moon too!

Pete: Yes, your eyes and hearing are going! What noise am I making right now?

Craig: It’s you snapping.

Pete: Oh, I guess my hearing is okay. I can do it! And although I’m small, at Christmas we give, so I’ll give it my all!

[Music]

As the children were sleeping all snug in their beds, Pete and his reindeer appeared overhead. Straight down the chimney, Pete flew in a dash, then back in his minibus quick as a flash. Each time he delivered a holiday gift, he crossed off a name written on Santa’s list.

Pete felt small, but at Christmas we give, so he gave it his all.

At the very last minute, they reached the last house. Pete dashed in and out just as quiet as a mouse.

Craig: Ooh, that’s pretty quiet! But he’s got some stiff competition because there is a mouse there.

Pete: Yeah, and not to mention the duck!

Craig: Oh hey, we can’t talk about the duck.

Pete: That’s right, we can’t talk about the duck.

Craig: Not about how cool he is or how great a swimmer he is or a good friend to Pete the Cat he is.

Pete: Exactly! We just can’t talk about the duck.

Craig: I wish we could tell you all those things about the duck, but we can’t.

Then right at the break of Christmas Day, Pete and his reindeer were flying away. Back at the North Pole, old Santa was waiting. The elves and the townsfolk were all celebrating.

Santa: Thank you, Pete! Small is cool!

Ryan: Are you sure Santa doesn’t look weird to you?

Craig: Santa’s suit, black belt, red hat, beard—looks like Santa to me!

Ryan: He doesn’t look like a cat to you at all?

Craig: No!

Ryan: But are you sure your eyes are okay? We’re gonna test. Okay, how many fingers am I holding up?

Craig: I can’t see anything, it’s black!

Ryan: Craig, your eyes are closed!

Craig: Open your eyes! Where am I?

Story time! Santa was dressed in his red coat and hat and cried, “Hip hip hooray for our friend Pete the Cat!”

Pete: I did it! And although I’m small, in the spirit of Christmas, I gave it my all!

[Music]

Ryan: I couldn’t understand a word you said!

[Applause]
