Hello, friends! I’m Ryan, and I’m so happy you’re here for Story Time with me. Today, we’re going to read a super fun book called “Silly Tilly” by Eileen Spinelli. The pictures are drawn by David Slonim. Let’s dive into the story and meet Tilly, the silliest goose on the farm!
Tilly is a very silly goose. She does funny things like taking baths in apple juice and wearing a pancake as a hat! Can you imagine that? Tilly even tries to ride the farmer’s cat and gives kisses to the fish. Everyone on the farm thinks Tilly is so funny and awesome. They all love her silly ways!
Tilly loves to have fun. She tickles frogs, kicks pickles to the hogs, and hops on soggy logs. She even combs her feathers with a rake and sails a pig’s pail across the lake. One time, she sat on a rooster’s birthday cake! Even though she can be a bit messy, everyone enjoys her silliness.
One day, Tilly’s friends on the farm said, “That’s enough of all your silly stuff.” They wanted to be serious for a while. Tilly stopped being silly, and things got quiet. But soon, everyone started to miss her funny antics. They realized how much they loved Tilly’s silly ways.
All the animals on the farm decided to apologize to Tilly. They wanted her to be silly again. Tilly was happy to hear this and went back to her fun ways. She soaked her feet in mayonnaise, sledded on cookie trays, and even glued glitter on the plow. Everyone on the farm was happy and laughing once more!
And that’s the end of the story! Tilly taught us that being silly and having fun is important. It makes everyone smile and brings joy to the farm. Thanks for joining me for Story Time! If you liked this story, come back for more fun adventures. See you next time!
Make Your Own Silly Hat: Just like Tilly wears a pancake as a hat, let’s create our own silly hats! Gather some craft supplies like paper, markers, stickers, and glue. Use your imagination to design a hat that makes you giggle. Once you’re done, wear your hat and share with your friends or family why it’s silly. How does it feel to be silly like Tilly?
Silly Walk Parade: Tilly does all sorts of funny things, so let’s have a Silly Walk Parade! Find a safe space where you can walk around. Think of the silliest way you can move—maybe you hop like Tilly on a soggy log or waddle like a goose. Invite your friends or family to join in and see who can come up with the silliest walk. How does being silly make you feel?
Observation Game – Find the Silly: Go on a little adventure around your home or classroom and look for things that are out of place or a bit silly, like a shoe on the table or a toy in the fridge. Make a list or draw pictures of the silly things you find. Discuss with your friends or teacher why these things are funny. Can you think of other silly things you could do like Tilly?

I want to give a shout-out to the Liz and B family of St. George, Utah, for sending us today’s book. Thank you, Preston, Timothy, Michael, and Rebecca! We can’t wait to read it because today’s book is “Silly Tilly” by Eileen Spinelli, illustrated by David Slonim. Let’s get started!
“Silly Tilly” by Eileen Spinelli, illustrated by David Slonim. Tilly was a silly goose, a daffy down and dilly goose who took her baths in apple juice. She wore a pancake as a hat, tried to ride the farmer’s cat, and kissed the fish—imagine that! Tilly is really funny, and I think she’s super awesome. She probably felt like the most popular person on the farm; everyone loved her, just like we love Tilly. They probably chanted her name!
Tilly liked to tickle frogs, kick a pickle to the hogs, and hop on top of soggy logs. She combed her feathers with a rake, sailed a pig’s pail across the lake, and even sat on a rooster’s birthday cake! She was a bit reckless, but she was so much fun. I mean, you don’t want to mess up a birthday cake, but it’s still pretty funny. I’m sure everyone loved her; everyone was a fan of Tilly.
One day, her friends said, “That’s enough of all your silly stuff.” Their barnyard voices sounded gruff. Another barnyard animal said, “We’re way too serious!” They seemed really upset, but I’m sure they’ll get over it; she’s so popular!
No more naps and scarecrow’s pants. The weeks went by, and Tilly Goose stopped being such a silly goose. Good job, Tilly! But why do I feel sad? I’m so sad and bored. It happens, though. I haven’t laughed since Tilly chased the garbage men and since Timmy sneezed and blew the fleas from Farmer’s clothes. Oh man, I remember that!
I think I speak for everyone when I say, “I know what must be done.” And so they did apologize with quacks and heartfelt sighs. To everyone’s great surprise, Tilly was back to her old ways! She soaked her feet in mayonnaise, sledded downhill on cookie trays, glued blue glitter on the plow, and turned six cartwheels on the cow. And all the farm was happy now.
The end! So, Ryan, what is the moral of the story?
Oh, it’s just too silly!
