In the story “So Few of Me,” Leo, a busy boy overwhelmed by his long to-do list, wishes for multiple versions of himself to tackle his tasks. However, as more Leos appear, they realize that having too many of themselves only leads to more work and chaos. Ultimately, Leo learns that by focusing on doing less but giving his best effort, he can manage his responsibilities effectively and find time to dream.
  1. Why did Leo want more of himself to help with his list?
  2. What did Leo learn about doing less and dreaming?
  3. How did Leo feel when he took a nap instead of working?

Introduction

Have you ever felt like you have too much to do and not enough time? Let’s read a fun story about a boy named Leo who had the same problem!

The Busy Boy

Leo was a very busy boy. He had so many things to do that he thought making a list might help. But his list just kept getting longer and longer!

The Surprise

Leo wished there were two of him to get everything done. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. When Leo opened it, he saw another Leo! The new Leo said, “Two of us will finish the list!” But even with two Leos, there was still more to do.

More Leos

Then a third Leo appeared, and soon there were four Leos. They thought maybe five would be even better. But it still wasn’t enough! A sixth Leo came to help organize everything. After a long meeting, they decided they needed a seventh Leo. But with seven Leos, there was seven times as much work!

Too Many Leos

Leo sighed and thought, “Maybe we need eight Leos just to catch our breath.” Then they thought nine might do the trick. But no, they added one more to make ten Leos, each busier than the last!

Time to Rest

Leo looked at their long list and felt tired. While the other nine Leos shouted, “Back to work!” Leo decided to take a nap. When he woke up, the other Leos were staring at him.

The Dream

“What were you doing?” they asked. Leo replied, “I was dreaming.” The other Leos said, “Dreaming wasn’t on the list!” But Leo smiled and thought about his dream. One by one, the other Leos disappeared.

The Lesson

Leo realized, “What if I did less but did my best? Then one Leo is all I need. Just me. Just one. With time to dream.”

  • Leo had so many things to do that he wished there were more of him. Have you ever felt like you had too much to do? What do you do when you feel that way?
  • In the story, Leo realized that doing less but doing his best was important. Can you think of a time when you did your best at something? How did it make you feel?
  • Leo decided to take a nap and dream, which helped him feel better. What are some things you like to do to relax or take a break when you feel busy or tired?
  1. Create Your Own To-Do List: Just like Leo, try making your own to-do list for a day. Write down 3-5 things you want to do. As you complete each task, check it off your list. How does it feel to finish a task? Did you find it helpful to have a list?

  2. Time to Dream: Find a cozy spot and take a few minutes to close your eyes and imagine a fun adventure. What do you see in your dream? Draw a picture of your dream adventure and share it with your friends or family. Why do you think dreaming is important, just like Leo discovered?

  3. One Leo is Enough: Think about a time when you felt like you had too much to do. What did you do to make it easier? Talk with a friend or family member about how doing your best with one task at a time can be more helpful than trying to do everything at once. Can you think of a way to make a big task smaller and more fun?

*So Few of Me* by Peter H. Reynolds

Leo was a busy lad. No matter how hard he worked, there was always more to do. Maybe making a list would help. Leo’s list of things to do grew and grew.

If only there were two of me! Just then, there was a knock on the door. Leo opened the door and blinked. It was another him! The new Leo grabbed the list and said, “Two of us will get it done.” He was helpful but found even more to do.

A third Leo joined the two. Four makes a fantastic team, but maybe a fifth would be even better. Still not enough! A sixth came in to help organize the lot. After meeting for hours, they decided they needed a seventh. With seven Leos, there was seven times as much work. Leo sighed and said, “We’ll need eight just to catch our breath.”

“Maybe nine Leos would get it done!”

No, add one more to make ten, each one busier than the next. Leo paused to review their list.

“Back to work!” nine Leos shouted. “No time to stop, no time to rest!” But Leo himself was exhausted. He slipped away to take a nap.

Leo awoke to nine other Leos staring at him. “What were you doing?” they demanded.

“I was dreaming,” Leo said softly.

“Dreaming was not on the list!” they roared.

Leo smiled, still savoring his dream. The Leos disappeared one by one. Leo wondered, “What if I did less but did my best? Then one Leo is all I need. Just me. Just one. With time to dream.”
