Welcome to Storytime! I’m Ryan, and this is my friend Craig. We’re so happy you’re here with us today. We have a fun story to share with you!
Once upon a time, there were three Billy Goats. They all had the same last name, Gruff. These goats lived in a valley where there wasn’t much grass to eat, and they were very hungry.
They wanted to go up the hill to a meadow full of yummy grass and pretty daisies. But to get there, they had to cross a bridge over a rushing river. Under this bridge lived a mean and grumpy troll!
The youngest Billy Goat Gruff decided to cross the bridge first. “Trip-trap, trip-trap,” went the bridge as he walked.
“Who’s that tripping over my bridge?” the troll roared.
“It’s just me, the tiniest Billy Goat Gruff,” said the little goat in a small voice. “I’m going to the meadow to eat and get big and strong.”
“No, you’re not!” said the troll. “I’m going to gobble you up!”
“Oh, please don’t eat me! I’m too little,” said the goat. “Wait for the second Billy Goat Gruff. He’s much bigger.”
“Okay, be off with you,” said the troll. Phew, that was close!
Next, the second Billy Goat Gruff came to the bridge. “Trip-trap, trip-trap, trip-trap,” went the bridge.
“Who’s that tripping over my bridge?” the troll roared.
“It’s me, the second Billy Goat Gruff. I’m going to the meadow to eat and get big and strong,” said the goat, with a voice not so small.
“No, you’re not!” said the troll. “I’m going to gobble you up!”
“Oh, please don’t eat me! Wait for the third Billy Goat Gruff. He’s much bigger.”
“Okay, be off with you,” said the troll.
Finally, the third Billy Goat Gruff came to the bridge. “Trip-trap, trip-trap, trip-trap,” went the bridge. This goat was so big and heavy that the bridge creaked and groaned.
“Who’s that tramping over my bridge?” the troll roared.
“It’s me, the big Billy Goat Gruff,” said the goat, with a voice as loud as the troll’s.
“Now I’m going to gobble you up!” roared the troll.
“Well, come on then,” said the big Billy Goat Gruff. “I’ve got two strong horns and four hard hooves. Let’s see what you can do!”
The troll climbed up, but the big Billy Goat Gruff was ready. He butted the troll with his horns and stomped him with his hooves. Then, he tossed the troll into the rushing river below!
Now the troll was all wet!
The big Billy Goat Gruff went up the hill to join his brothers in the meadow. The three Billy Goats Gruff ate so much grass that they got big and strong. They were so happy!
And that’s the end of the story! Thanks for joining us for Storytime. If you liked the story, come back again for more fun tales. See you next time!
Bridge Building Challenge: Gather some building materials like blocks, cardboard, or sticks. Try to build a bridge that can hold a small toy goat. How strong can you make your bridge? Test it by adding more toys. Discuss with your friends or family what makes a bridge strong and how the goats in the story crossed the bridge.
Role Play Adventure: With your friends or family, act out the story of “The Three Billy Goats Gruff.” Take turns being the goats and the troll. Use different voices for each character. How does it feel to be the troll? How does it feel to be the brave big Billy Goat Gruff? Talk about why the goats wanted to cross the bridge and what they learned.
Nature Walk Exploration: Go on a nature walk with an adult and look for bridges in your neighborhood or park. What are they made of? Are they strong? Imagine if there were trolls under them! Discuss why bridges are important and how they help us in our daily lives, just like they helped the goats reach the meadow.

Hello there! I’m Ryan.
I’m Craig.

I have a comment regarding today’s book, which is dedicated to Miss Castle’s class and all kindergarten students at Roanoke Elementary. Today’s book is “The Three Billy Goats Gruff” by Paul Galdone.
Once upon a time, there were three Billy Goats. They lived in a valley, and the name of all three Billy Goats was Gruff. There was very little grass in the valley, and the Billy Goats were hungry. They wanted to go up the hillside to a fine meadow full of grass and daisies where they could eat and get fat.
But on the way up, there was a bridge over a rushing river, and under the bridge lived a troll who was as mean as he was ugly.
First, the youngest Billy Goat Gruff decided to cross the bridge.
“Trip-trap, trip-trap,” went the bridge.
“Who’s that tripping over my bridge?” roared the troll.
“Oh, it’s only I, the tiniest Billy Goat Gruff,” said the Billy Goat in a very small voice. “I’m going to the meadow to make myself fat.”
“No, you’re not,” said the troll, “for I’m coming to gobble you up!”
“Please don’t take me! I’m too little,” said the Billy Goat. “Wait until the second Billy Goat Gruff comes; he’s much bigger.”
“Very well, be off with you,” said the troll.
That was close!
A little later, the second Billy Goat Gruff came to cross the bridge.
“Trip-trap, trip-trap, trip-trap,” went the bridge.
“Who’s that tripping over my bridge?” roared the troll.
“Oh, it’s I, the second Billy Goat Gruff, and I’m going up to the meadow to make myself fat,” said the Billy Goat, and his voice was not so small.
“No, you’re not,” said the troll, “for I’m coming to gobble you up!”
“Oh, please don’t take me! Wait until the third Billy Goat Gruff comes; he’s much bigger.”
“Very well, be off with you,” said the troll.
Then up came the third Billy Goat Gruff.
“Trip-trap, trip-trap, trip-trap,” went the bridge. The third Billy Goat Gruff was so heavy that the bridge creaked and groaned under him.
“Who’s that tramping over my bridge?” roared the troll.
“It is I, the big Billy Goat Gruff,” said the Billy Goat, and his voice was as loud as the troll’s.
“Now I’m coming to gobble you up!” roared the troll.
“Well, come along,” said the big Billy Goat Gruff. “I’ve got two horns and four hard hooves. See what you can do!”
So up climbed that mean troll, and the big Billy Goat Gruff butted him with his horns and trampled him with his hard hooves. Oh, and he tossed him over the bridge into the rushing river!
Now the troll was all wet!
Then the big Billy Goat Gruff went up the hillside to join his brothers in the meadow. The three Billy Goats Gruff got so fat that they could hardly walk home again.
They are probably there yet!
So, snip, snap, snout, this tale’s told out!
