In today’s lesson, we met Rocket, a motorcycle built by Hector, and joined them on an adventure to fix a broken road. We learned how to build various vehicles, including a bulldozer, concrete mixer, road roller, tow truck, and fire engine, each with specific parts and functions to help complete the road and address emergencies. The story emphasizes teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity as Hector and his friends work together to overcome challenges.
  1. Who are the friends that helped build the bulldozer?
  2. What did we need to fix the broken road?
  3. How did Hose help Wheeler when there was a fire?

Meet Rocket and Friends!

Good morning! Today is a beautiful day with lots of flower petals everywhere. Have you met Rocket? He’s a cool motorcycle and a great friend of Hector. Hector built Rocket just like he built Petal. Oh no! The road is broken! How will we get past it? Let’s help Petal and Rocket with Hector’s help!

Building a Bulldozer

To fix the road, we need to build a bulldozer. Let’s start by putting together the chassis. Then, we add the body of the bulldozer. Next, we attach the push frames on each side. What comes next, Hector? Oh yes, we need two wheels on each side. Do you know what these are called? They are the wings! Don’t forget the mirrors on both sides.

Uh oh! We are missing an important part. Where could it be? Oh, there it is, right behind Hector! Let’s attach the bucket to the bulldozer. Hello, Scooper! Can you help us fix the road?

Thank you, Scooper! You did a great job!

Building a Concrete Mixer

Oh dear, the road isn’t ready yet. We need to build a concrete mixer now. Let’s start with the chassis. Add the body, a gray bumper in the front, four wheels on each side, and a yellow platform for the drum.

Now, let’s add the magic part! We need the gray part to hold the drum, red and green yellow headlights on top, and mirrors on both sides. Hello, Sealer! Can you help us?

Thank you, Sealer! You did an amazing job! The road is almost ready, Petal and Rocket. Just one more step to go!

Building a Road Roller

Let’s make a road roller, Hector! Attach the body to the chassis. Add wings on the back, two big gray wheels under the wings, mirrors on both sides, and an orange frame in the front to hold the cylinder. Which cylinder should we use? Let’s pick this one!

Hi, Squish! Can you help us finish the road?

Great job, Squish! Thank you so much! Petal and Rocket, your road is ready!

Rapido and Wheeler’s Adventure

Oh look, there’s Rapido on his way back to the station when suddenly, Vroom! Wheeler zooms by! Rapido thinks, “I better stop Wheeler from going so fast.”

“Wheeler, stop!” says Rapido.

“No, it’s a lovely day!” says Wheeler. “I’m faster than you because I can go vroom!”

But oh no, there’s a big rock in the middle of the road!

Rapido quickly turns around and heads back to the top of the cliff. “Are you okay?” asks Rapido.

“Yeah,” says Wheeler. “But can cars climb trees?”

“I don’t know, but I think I should call Hector,” says Rapido.

Building Tug the Tow Truck

Hector comes to help. “This looks like a job for Tug the tow truck,” says Hector. Let’s build Tug! Start with the flatbed, then add the cabin and the bumper. Next, put on the wings over the wheels. We need four wheels, two on each side.

Now, add the hydraulics to make the boom go up and down, two headlights, two wing mirrors, a siren, and the main boom and hook. Ta-da! Hi, Tug!

Tug lowers her hook to Wheeler, who is a bit scared. She pulls and pulls, and up comes Wheeler! “Thanks, Tug and Hector!”

Hector and the Fire at the Farm

Oh no, there’s a fire at the farm! Wheeler is on his way to go trick-or-treating. What can Wheeler do? Maybe Hector can help!

“Hector, there’s a fire at the farm!” says Wheeler.

“Let’s make Hose the fire engine quickly!” says Hector.

Hector races to get the parts to build Hose. Start with the body, add the big red storage compartment, the ladder, and the bumper. Add four wheels, two on each side, wing mirrors, headlights, a bell, a light, a siren, and of course, a hose!

Hi, Hose! Wheeler says, “I was driving along to go trick-or-treating and put out that fire!”

“Whoosh!” goes the water from Hose’s hose, putting out the fire. “Naughty lightning!”

The fire is out, and Wheeler can go trick-or-treating with his friends. “Thank you, Hose!”

“Hey Hector, who are you going to dress up as for trick-or-treating?”

“Oh, I think I’ll dress up like Hector!”

  • What do you think it would be like to have a friend like Rocket or Petal? How would you help each other out?
  • If you could build any vehicle to help your friends, what would it be and why? What special features would it have?
  • Have you ever seen a construction vehicle like a bulldozer or a concrete mixer? What did it look like, and what was it doing?
  1. Build Your Own Vehicle: Gather some simple materials like cardboard boxes, paper towel rolls, and plastic bottle caps. Encourage the children to use their imagination to build their own vehicle, just like Hector did with Rocket and his friends. Ask them to think about what parts they need, such as wheels, mirrors, or a special tool like a bucket or a hose. Once they’ve built their vehicle, have them share what it can do and how it might help in a story like the one they watched.

  2. Road Repair Adventure: Set up a small obstacle course using blocks or toys to represent a broken road. Provide toy vehicles or small construction toys and ask the children to work together to “repair” the road. Encourage them to think about which vehicles from the story would be best for each task and why. This activity helps them apply the concept of teamwork and problem-solving in a fun, hands-on way.

  3. Imagine and Draw: Ask the children to draw a picture of a new vehicle that could help Rocket and his friends. What special features does it have? How does it help solve problems? Encourage them to think creatively and explain their drawing to the class. This activity promotes creativity and helps them think about how different tools and vehicles can be used in everyday life.

Here’s a sanitized version of the provided YouTube transcript:

[Music] It’s a wonderful morning, and there are petals everywhere. Have you met Rocket? He’s a motorcycle and Hector’s good friend. Hector built him just like Petal. Oh no, the road is all broken! However will we pass? Can you help Petal and Rocket, Hector?

[Music] We will have to build a bulldozer. Let’s start with the chassis. Now, add the body of the bulldozer. Next, add the push frames on either side. What should we add next, Hector? Oh yes, two wheels on either side. Do you know what these are called? These are the wings! Oh, the mirrors on both sides.

[Music] Hector, it looks like we are missing an important part of the truck. Wherever can it be? Uh oh! Hector, the bucket is right behind you! Oh, let’s take the bucket back and attach it to the body of the bulldozer.

Hello, Scooper! Can you help us fix the road?

[Music] Oh, thank you, Scooper! You’ve done a great job!

[Music] Oh dear, the road isn’t ready yet, Hector. We now need to build a concrete mixer.

[Music] Let’s start with the chassis. Now add the body, a gray bumper in the front, four wheels on either side, and a yellow platform where the drum will be placed.

[Music] Now, the most important part where the magic takes place. Now this gray part to keep the drum in place, red and green yellow headlights on top of the body, and lastly, the mirrors on both sides.

Hello, Sealer! Could you help us?

[Music][Music] You’ve done such a great job, Sealer! Thank you! The road is not ready yet, Petal and Rocket. Just one last step to a brand new road.

[Music] Let’s make a road roller, Hector!

[Music] Let’s attach the body to the chassis. Wings on the back, two big gray wheels under the wings, two mirrors on both sides, and an orange frame in the front to hold the cylinder. Now let’s add the cylinder. But which one is it? Is it this one? No. What about this one?

[Music] Well, that just leaves this one—the cylinder! Let’s add this to the body. Hi, Squish! Can you help fix our road?

[Music] Great job, Squish! Thank you so much! Petal and Rocket, your road is ready!

Thank you, Hector! See you next time!

[Music] Oh, there’s Rapido on his way back to the station when suddenly, Vroom! Wheeler goes rushing by, and Rapido thinks, “I better put on my siren and stop Wheeler from going so fast.”

“Wheeler, stop!”

“No, just no! It’s a lovely day!”

“They’re not faster than you! This is a race!”

“A race? I’m an officer of the law; I’m not supposed to race.”

“Then don’t,” says Wheeler. “I’m faster than you anyway because I can go vroom!”

And then there’s a big rock in the middle of the road.

[Applause] Rapido turns around really fast and heads back to the top of the cliff.

“You okay?” says Rapido.

“Yeah,” says Wheeler. “But can cars climb trees?”

“Don’t know, but I think I should call Hector.”

“Calling all Hector’s going to go!”

And there’s good old Hector on his way to help.

“Okay, Rapido, this looks like a job for Tug the tow truck. Be right back!”

So Hector heads off to get all the parts needed to make Tug the tow truck.

There’s quite a few! Let’s get rolling!

“Nice to see you back,” says Rapido.

To build Tug the tow truck, you start with the flatbed, then you put on the cabin and, of course, the bumper. Next, we put on the wings—some people call them wheel arches. There are four of them, and they go over the wheels. And of course, we won’t get far without the wheels—there are four of those too, two on each side.

Next, we have the hydraulics—that’s the machinery that makes the boom go up and down. And we have two headlights, two wing mirrors, a super-duper siren and light assembly, and finally, the main boom and hook.

Ta-da! Hi, Tug!

Tug is going to lower her hook down to Wheeler, who’s a bit frightened. Then she’s going to unhook him and pull and pull and pull, and up comes Wheeler!

“Thanks, Tug and Hector!”

“Hey Hector, you think Wheeler’s gonna get a speeding ticket?”

“Yup, it’s very lightning-y, isn’t it?”

Oh, there’s some more, and it set fire to the farm! Wheeler is on his way to go trick-or-treating, and that fire is looking like it might be out of control.

Poor Wheeler! He’s gonna come around that corner and run straight into… a fire at the farm! What can Wheeler do? He could make cookies or he could dance.

Oh, there’s Hector the tractor! Maybe you can help!

“Hector, there’s a fire at the farm!” says Wheeler.

“No, I could make cookies or I could dance, but I think we need to make Hose the fire engine quickly!”

Hector races off to get the parts to build Hose the fire engine quickly.

Let’s get those parts on the flatbed quickly!

Then Hector races back to Wheeler at the farm.

“No, I said races, Hector!”

Now, in order to build Hose the fire engine, we start with the body. Next, there’s the big red storage compartment, and of course, the ladder.

Then there’s the bumper—have to watch out for bumps!

“Relax, Wheeler!”

And we have four wheels, two on one side and two on the other side.

Next, we have the wing mirrors, two headlights—very important at night—and a bell and a light and a siren. And of course, no fire engine without a hose!

Could be called Hose!

Ta-da! Hi, Hose!

Wheeler says, “I was driving along on my way to go trick-or-treating and put out that fire!”

Says Hector, “Whoosh!” goes the water from Hose’s hose right where it’s needed to put that fire out.

“Naughty lightning!”

Soon the fire is out, and Wheeler can go trick-or-treating with his friends.

“Thank you, Hose!”

“Hey Hector, who are you gonna dress up as for trick-or-treating?”

“Oh, I think I’m gonna dress up like Hector!”
