In today’s lesson, we explored the concepts of “same” and “different” with the help of Eddie the Elephant. Through fun examples like balloons and star toys, we learned to identify similarities in color and size, while also recognizing differences, such as color and size variations. We concluded the lesson with a look at a mother duck and her ducklings, reinforcing the idea that while they are all ducks, they can differ in size.
  1. What are two things that are the same that you can see around you?
  2. Can you find something that is different from your favorite toy?
  3. How is the mother duck different from her ducklings?

Let’s Learn About Same and Different!

Hello, friends! Today, we’re going to have fun learning about things that are the same and things that are different. Our friend, Eddie the Elephant, is here to help us!

Playing with Balloons

Do you like balloons? Eddie loves them and is really good at blowing them up. Let’s see what he has!

Look, here are two balloons. They are both yellow and the same size. That means they are the same!

But wait, there’s another balloon! It’s the same size as the yellow ones, but it’s red. This balloon is different because it has a different color.

Beautiful Stars

Eddie also has some star toys. Look at these two stars. They are both blue and the same size. These stars are the same!

Now, Eddie has one more star. It’s the same shape and size as the blue stars, but it’s pink. This star is different because it has a different color.

Mother Duck and Her Ducklings

Let’s meet a mother duck and her ducklings. Are they all the same? Take a close look!

They are all ducks, but the mother duck is bigger than the ducklings. So, they are different in size. The mother duck is bigger!

Goodbye for Now!

All our balloons and stars have floated away, but that’s okay! We had fun learning about things that are the same and different.

Next time, we’ll learn about objects that fit together. Make sure to come back and join us for more fun!

  • Can you think of two things in your room that are the same? What makes them the same?
  • Have you ever seen animals that look the same but are different in some way? What was different about them?
  • Imagine you have a red apple and a green apple. How are they the same, and how are they different?
  1. Balloon Sorting Game: Gather a collection of balloons in different colors and sizes. Ask the children to sort the balloons into groups that are the same and groups that are different. Encourage them to explain why they grouped the balloons in a certain way. This activity helps them practice identifying similarities and differences based on color and size.

  2. Star Matching Activity: Provide children with cut-out star shapes in various colors and sizes. Ask them to find pairs of stars that are the same and those that are different. You can also ask them to create a pattern using the stars, such as alternating colors or sizes, to reinforce the concept of same and different.

  3. Duck Family Observation Walk: Take the children on a short walk outside or show them pictures of different animals. Ask them to observe and discuss how animals of the same kind can be different in size, color, or other features. For example, they can look at birds and notice how some are bigger or have different colored feathers. This activity encourages them to apply the concept of same and different to real-life situations.

Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Hello everyone! Today we’ll compare objects to see if they are the same or different. Our friend Eddie the Elephant will help us.

Hey guys! Everybody enjoys playing with balloons. Do you like them too? Of course, I’m very good at blowing them up. Have a look!

Wow, you can do it really well!

Look, guys! Here are two balloons. They are both yellow and the same size. We can say they are the same.

Yes, these balloons are exactly the same. Oh, we’ve got one more balloon! Let’s have a close look at it. It’s the same size as the two other balloons, but it looks different. The first two balloons are yellow and this one is red. It differs in color.

I have other toys too!

[Music]

These are two stars. How beautiful they are! They are both blue and the same size. We can say that these stars are the same.

I’ll blow up one more star. It looks very much like the two other stars, but it’s also different. The two other stars are blue and this one is pink. It’s the same shape and size, but it’s a different color.

Oh, they got blown away! I’ll have to make some more toys.

[Music]

This is a mother duck with her ducklings. Are they all exactly the same? Take your time, look carefully, and tell us what you’ve noticed.

They are all ducks; that’s what they have in common. But the mother duck is bigger than the ducklings. Right you are! This duck is different in size; it’s bigger.

[Music]

All our balloons got blown away.
