Hey there! Welcome to our exciting new video series on the Scratch website. I’m Eric, also known as Speak Visually on Scratch, and I’m Rick Rose, also known as Rick Rose on Scratch. We’re part of the MIT Scratch team, and we’re here to share some cool stuff with you!
We’re trying something new by creating videos to highlight three awesome things:
Let’s dive into our first segment called “Love It.” We’ve found some amazing projects in the Scratch community that we want to share with you.
One project is called “I Am the Doctor,” organized by a user named Hello Yo Was Up. It’s a big animated project where about 12 to 15 Scratch users each created a part of the animation. Hello Yo Was Up combined all these parts into one fantastic project. You can find the link to this project below the video.
Another cool project is “The Life of Baldwin” by Hobson DTV. It’s about a character named Baldwin who feels misunderstood by his parents. He dreams of becoming a sonographer, but as the story unfolds, we learn more about his true passions. Hobson DTV invites everyone to suggest ideas for where the story should go next, and it’s been exciting to see how it develops. Check it out and maybe add your own ideas!
Have you seen any inspiring projects in the community? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
Now, let’s talk about some fun things you can try. Have you heard of the Scratch Design Studio? It’s a featured studio with a new theme every month. This month’s theme is “Once Upon a Dinner.” You can create a project about who you’d like to have dinner with and share it in the studio. Just leave a comment, and a curator will add your project.
Another exciting event is the Hour of Code. It’s a week-long event, but each activity only takes about an hour. You can design a holiday card, animate your name, or create a Pong game. These activities are part of Computer Science Education Week, a great time to try coding and meet new people in the Scratch community. Say hello and show them something cool!
Our community is growing, and we have three new moderators: Agent Pineapple, AC House, and Hadada. They joined us about two months ago. Feel free to welcome them and check out their “About Me” projects to learn more about them.
That’s it for our first video! We’re still thinking of a name for this series, so if you have any ideas, please leave a comment. Until next time, see you in the community! Keep scratching and have fun! Bye!
Use Scratch to create your own short animation. Think about a story or a message you want to convey. Use different sprites and backgrounds to bring your story to life. Share your project with the class and explain the inspiration behind it.
Visit the Scratch website and explore projects like “I Am the Doctor” and “The Life of Baldwin.” Write a short paragraph about what you found inspiring in these projects and how they might influence your own Scratch creations.
Join the Scratch Design Studio and create a project based on the current theme, “Once Upon a Dinner.” Think about who you’d like to have dinner with and why. Share your project in the studio and see what others have created.
Participate in the Hour of Code by choosing an activity like designing a holiday card or creating a Pong game. Spend an hour coding and then present your project to the class. Discuss what you learned and any challenges you faced.
Research the new Scratch moderators: Agent Pineapple, AC House, and Hadada. Create a short presentation about one of them, including interesting facts from their “About Me” projects. Share your findings with the class.

Is this thing on? Hi everyone! My name is Eric, also known as Speak Visually on Scratch, and I’m Rick Rose, also known as Rick Rose on Scratch. We’re from the MIT Scratch team, and you’re probably wondering why you’re watching a video on the Scratch website. That’s a good question! We’re doing an experiment, a video series where we want to highlight three things:
1. Inspiring things that we’re seeing in the community.
2. Cool creative things that you can try.
3. Messages from the Scratch team, which could include highlighting new features and updates from our headquarters.
With that said, let’s jump into our first segment called “Love It.” There are many inspiring things in the community, but we picked out a couple to share. One inspiring collaboration I found was organized by the user Hello Yo Was Up. It’s called “I Am the Doctor,” and it’s a massive animated project. Different Scratch users—about 12 to 15 of them—each created a part of the animation, and Hello Yo Was Up put them all together into a beautiful Scratch project. You can find the link in the description below this video.
Another collaboration we found interesting is by Hobson DTV, titled “The Life of Baldwin.” Hobson DTV starts off by introducing Baldwin, who feels misunderstood by his parents and aspires to be a sonographer, but his true passions are revealed as the story unfolds. Hobson DTV invites the community to leave suggestions in the project comments for where the story can go, and it’s been exciting to see how it develops. Be sure to check it out!
Now, what else have you found inspiring in the community? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
Next, let’s move on to our segment called “Things to Try.” You might have noticed the Scratch Design Studio, which is a featured studio with a specific theme that changes every month. This month’s theme is “Once Upon a Dinner,” where you can share who you would like to have dinner with. Visit the homepage to check out the projects, and if you want to create your own, just leave a comment in that studio, and a curator will add it.
Another exciting event coming up is the Hour of Code, which is a week-long initiative, but the activities will only take about an hour. These activities include designing a holiday card, animating your name, and creating a Pong game. These activities celebrate Computer Science Education Week and provide an opportunity for people to try new things with coding. You’ll likely see many new faces in the community, so make sure to say hello and show them something cool in Scratch.
Speaking of growth, we have three new moderators who joined about two months ago. You might have seen them: Agent Pineapple, AC House, and Hadada. Feel free to welcome them into the Scratch community! I’ve left links to their “About Me” projects so you can learn more about them.
That wraps up our first video! We’re still brainstorming a name for this series, so if you have any suggestions, please leave a comment. Until next time, see you in the community! Scratch on! Bye!
