The lesson on seasons explains the four distinct times of the year: spring, summer, fall, and winter, each characterized by unique weather patterns and changes in nature. Spring brings warmth and new growth, summer offers sunny days for outdoor activities, fall showcases colorful leaves, and winter is marked by cold weather and snow. The lesson encourages reflection on personal preferences for each season and highlights the special experiences they provide.
  1. What do you like to do in your favorite season?
  2. How does the weather change in each season?
  3. What happens to plants and animals during the different seasons?

Seasons

Have you ever noticed how the weather changes during the year? Sometimes it’s hot, and other times it’s cold or rainy. These changes are called seasons. In many places, there are four seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter. Each season has its own special weather, and plants and animals change too!

Spring

In spring, the weather starts to get warm. Plants begin to grow, and flowers bloom. Many animals have their babies in spring. It’s a time when everything feels fresh and new!

Summer

After spring comes summer. Summer is the hottest season with lots of sunny days. It’s a great time to play outside, go swimming, and enjoy the sunshine!

Fall

Fall, also known as autumn, comes after summer. The weather gets cooler, and the leaves on the trees change color. They turn red, orange, and yellow before falling to the ground. It’s fun to jump in piles of leaves!

Winter

Winter is the coldest season and comes after fall. Many plants lose their leaves, and some animals go to warmer places or sleep through the winter. You might see snow and get to build a snowman or go sledding!

What’s Your Favorite Season?

Do you have a favorite season? Maybe you like playing in the snow during winter or swimming in the summer. Each season has something special to enjoy!

  • What changes do you notice in your neighborhood or backyard when a new season begins? Can you describe how the trees, plants, or animals look different?
  • Think about your favorite activities during each season. What do you like to do in spring, summer, fall, and winter? Why are these activities special to you?
  • If you could create a new season, what would it be like? What kind of weather would it have, and what fun things could people do during this new season?
  1. Seasonal Nature Walk: Take a walk outside with a grown-up and observe the changes in nature. Look for signs of the current season, like blooming flowers in spring or colorful leaves in fall. Collect a few small items like leaves, flowers, or twigs that represent the season. When you return, create a “Season Box” by placing these items in a small box or container. Share your findings with your classmates and talk about how these items show the season you are in.

  2. Seasonal Dress-Up: Pretend you are dressing up for each season. Use clothes and accessories from home to dress up for spring, summer, fall, and winter. For example, wear a hat and sunglasses for summer or a scarf and mittens for winter. Take turns with your friends or family members to guess which season you are dressed for. Discuss why certain clothes are suitable for each season and how they help us stay comfortable.

  3. Favorite Season Drawing: Draw a picture of your favorite season. Think about what makes this season special for you. Do you like the colorful leaves in fall or the snow in winter? Include details like the weather, activities you enjoy, and any animals or plants you might see. Share your drawing with the class and explain why this season is your favorite. Listen to others and learn about their favorite seasons too!
