In this lesson, Toby guides us through a fun shape adventure where we build a house using various geometric shapes. We learn about the square, triangle, circle, rectangle, and rhombus, each serving a specific purpose in the construction and decoration of the house. By the end, we review the shapes used and celebrate our creative accomplishment together.
  1. What shape did we use for the base of our house?
  2. How many sides does a triangle have?
  3. What shape did we use for the window in our house?

Welcome to Our Shape Adventure!

Hi there, I’m Toby! Today, we’re going to have fun with shapes and build a house together. Are you ready to help me? Let’s get started!

Meet the Shapes

First, we have a square. A square has four sides that are all the same length. We will use the square as the base of our house.

Next, we have a triangle. A triangle has three sides. Let’s put the triangle on top of the square to make a roof. Now our house has a roof!

Adding More Shapes

Look at this circle. It’s round and perfect for a window. Let’s add it to our house to make a circular window.

Here is a rectangle. It has four sides, but they are not all the same length. The rectangle will be a great door for our house.

Decorating with Rhombuses

These shapes are called rhombuses. They look like diamonds. Let’s use them to decorate our house and make it look beautiful. Wow, our house looks amazing now!

Reviewing Our Shapes

Let’s remember all the shapes we used to build our house. Can you say them with me? A square, a triangle, a rectangle, a circle, and a rhombus. Great job!

Thanks for helping me build this wonderful house. See you next time! Bye-bye!

  • What shapes can you find in your own house or classroom? Can you think of any objects that are shaped like a square, triangle, circle, rectangle, or rhombus?
  • If you could build your own house using any shapes you like, what shapes would you choose and why? How would you arrange them to make your house special?
  • Why do you think different shapes are used for different parts of a house, like a triangle for the roof or a rectangle for the door? Can you think of other examples where certain shapes are used for specific purposes?
  • Shape Hunt: Go on a shape hunt around your home or classroom. Can you find objects that match the shapes we used to build our house? Look for squares, triangles, circles, rectangles, and rhombuses. Draw or take a picture of each shape you find and share it with your friends or family.

  • Shape Building Challenge: Use building blocks, cut-out paper shapes, or playdough to create your own house using the shapes we learned about. Try to include a square base, a triangle roof, a circle window, a rectangle door, and rhombus decorations. How creative can you be with your design?

  • Shape Story Time: Imagine a story about the house you built. Who lives in the house? What adventures do they have? Draw a picture of your story and share it with your class. Think about how the different shapes make your house special and unique.

Welcome to KidsAcademy! Hi there, I’m Toby. I need to put these shapes together to build my own house. Will you help me? Great!

[Music]

This is a square; it has four equal sides. We need it to start building the house. And this is a triangle. It’s called a triangle because it has three sides. Let’s put the triangle on top of the square. We’ve got a roof now!

Great! This is a circle; it’s round and will make a perfect circular-shaped window. We’ve got a rectangle here; it has four sides. The rectangle will make a great door.

These rhombuses are like diamonds. Let’s use them to decorate our house. Lovely! The house is ready. Good work!

What shapes have we used to build the house? Let’s have a look at the shapes again. Everybody say: a square, a triangle, a rectangle, a circle, a rhombus.

Bye-bye!
