When we count by tens, we start with the number ten. Let’s say the numbers together:

Did you know you can count by tens with other things too? Try counting your toys, crayons, or even steps as you walk. Counting by tens makes it quick and fun!

  1. Counting by Tens Treasure Hunt: Go on a treasure hunt around your house or classroom! Find objects that you can group into tens, like crayons, blocks, or toy cars. Once you have a group of ten, count them out loud together: 10, 20, 30, and so on. How many groups of ten can you find?

  2. Step Counting Adventure: Take a walk with a family member or friend. Count your steps by tens as you walk. For example, after ten steps, say “10,” then after another ten steps, say “20,” and continue. How far can you count? Try to reach 100 steps!

  3. Draw and Count: Draw a picture of something you love, like a garden with flowers or a park with trees. In your drawing, include groups of ten items, like ten flowers or ten trees. Count them by tens and share your drawing with someone. Can they count by tens with you?
