In this lesson, Toby guides learners through a fun and interactive counting adventure, starting with counting apples from one to five, then building a house using various shapes like squares, triangles, and circles. The lesson continues with counting cars parked in garages by twos and finally counting sheep by tens to help Toby fall asleep, reinforcing counting skills in a playful and engaging manner.
  1. How many apples did we count together?
  2. What shapes did we use to build the house?
  3. Can you count the cars with me? How many cars parked in the garages?

Welcome to Our Fun Learning Adventure!

Hi there, I’m Toby! Do you see those yummy apples? Let’s count them together and write the numbers. Are you ready to help me? Yay! Let’s start counting the apples and saying the numbers out loud.

Counting Apples

Look, there’s one apple in this box. Let’s write the number one. Now, how many apples are in this box? Two apples! Let’s write the number two. And here, we have three apples. Good job! Let’s write the number three. How many apples are in this box? Four! You’re doing great! Let’s write the number four. And here we have five apples. Fantastic! Let’s write the number five.

Let’s check our numbers again: one, two, three, four, five. We did a great job counting together! Bye!

Building a House with Shapes

Hi again, I’m Toby! I need your help to build a house using shapes. Will you help me? Awesome!

This is a square; it has four equal sides. We need it to start building the house. And this is a triangle. It has three sides. Let’s put the triangle on top of the square to make a roof. Great!

This is a circle; it’s round. It will be a perfect window. We also have a rectangle with four sides. It will make a great door. These rhombuses look like diamonds. Let’s use them to decorate our house. Lovely! Our house is ready. Good work!

Let’s remember the shapes we used: a square, a triangle, a rectangle, a circle, and a rhombus. Bye-bye!

Parking Cars by Counting

Hi there, it’s me, Toby! Let’s help these ten cars park in five garages. Each garage can hold two cars. Let’s count the cars by twos. Ready?

Two, four… Keep counting with me! Six. Do you think there will be enough space for all the cars? Eight, ten. Great job! Let’s count again to make sure: two, four, six, eight, ten. Thanks for helping the cars park! Bye!

Counting Sheep to Sleep

Hi there, it’s me, Toby! I can’t fall asleep. Can you help me count sheep? Awesome! The sheep are in groups of ten, so let’s count them by tens.

Let’s start: ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety, one hundred.

I’m feeling sleepy now. Thank you for helping me count the sheep. Good night, everybody!

  • When you count apples or other things, do you like to count out loud or in your head? Why do you think that is?
  • Have you ever built something using shapes, like blocks or paper? What did you make, and what shapes did you use?
  • Can you think of a time when you helped someone, like Toby helped the cars park? How did it make you feel?
  1. Apple Counting Adventure: Gather some apples or any other small objects at home. Ask the children to count them just like Toby did in the video. Once they have counted the objects, encourage them to write down the numbers on a piece of paper. Then, mix up the objects and ask them to count again, but this time, try counting backward from five to one. This will help reinforce their counting skills and understanding of number sequences.

  2. Shape Hunt: Go on a shape hunt around your home or classroom. Ask the children to find objects that match the shapes Toby used to build the house: square, triangle, circle, rectangle, and rhombus. Once they find an object, have them draw it and label the shape. This activity will help them recognize shapes in their environment and understand how shapes are used in everyday life.

  3. Car Parking Challenge: Create a simple parking lot using paper or cardboard with five “garages” drawn on it. Use toy cars or cutouts to represent the cars. Ask the children to park the cars by counting in twos, just like Toby did. Encourage them to think about how many cars each garage can hold and if there are enough spaces for all the cars. This will help them practice counting by twos and understand grouping and division in a fun way.

What shapes have we used to build the house? Let’s have a look at the shapes again. Everybody say: a square, a triangle, a rectangle, a circle, a rhombus. Bye-bye!
