In the “Welcome to Story Time!” lesson, children are introduced to the delightful book “Sleepyheads” by Sandra J. Howard, which explores various cozy places where little sleepyheads rest. Through engaging descriptions and illustrations, the story invites children to identify and imagine the different sleepyheads found in nature and at home, culminating in the heartwarming discovery of a sleepyhead nestled in a mother’s arms. The lesson encourages children to reflect on their own cozy bedtime routines, fostering a sense of comfort and connection to the story.
  1. What do you think makes a sleepyhead feel cozy and safe?
  2. Can you name some places where we found sleepyheads in the story?
  3. How do you feel when you are a sleepyhead in your bed?

Welcome to Story Time!

Hello, friends! Are you ready for a fun story? Today, we have a special book called “Sleepyheads” by Sandra J. Howard, with pictures by Joyce Juan. Let’s begin our adventure!

Finding Sleepyheads

Do you see the moon in the sky? It’s time for everyone to get cozy and go to sleep. Let’s find where all the little sleepyheads are resting!

Look over there! I see a sleepyhead cuddled up in a nest. Isn’t that sweet? And there’s another sleepyhead who loves getting a big hug before bed. So cute!

Sleepyheads Everywhere

Oh, look! There’s a sleepyhead nestled inside a cave. And another one is gently rocking on a wave. Can you imagine that?

See that sleepyhead snuggled in the reeds? And another one is resting in the weeds. Sleepyheads are everywhere!

Look at the sleepyhead burrowed in the hay. But wait, this one isn’t sleepy at all because it slept all day!

Peek Inside the House

Now, let’s peek inside the house. Can you find the little beds where sleepyheads lay their heads?

Look! There’s a sleepyhead beside the fireplace. And another one is curled up tight in a dark space. How cozy!

Do you see the teddy bear, pillow, and bed? There’s a soft and warm blanket, but where’s the sleepyhead?

Where is the Last Sleepyhead?

We found sleepyheads in trees, holes, weeds, and reeds. We even found them on waves and in barns. But where is the last little sleepyhead?

Oh, there it is! Asleep in Mama’s arms. So warm and safe!

Are You a Sleepyhead?

Are you all snuggly and cozy in your bed? Are you a sleepyhead too? I think you might be!

We hope you enjoyed “Sleepyheads”! Remember to come back for more stories. Take care and see you soon. Bye-bye!

  • Can you think of a special place where you like to sleep or rest? What makes it cozy and comfortable for you?
  • Have you ever seen animals or pets sleeping in interesting places? Where were they, and what did they look like?
  • What do you like to do before you go to sleep? Do you have a favorite bedtime story or routine that helps you feel sleepy?
  1. Sleepyhead Hunt: Go on a “Sleepyhead Hunt” around your home or classroom. Look for cozy spots where you think a sleepyhead might like to rest. It could be a soft chair, a pile of pillows, or a sunny spot by the window. Draw a picture of your favorite sleepyhead spot and share why you think it’s a good place to rest.

  2. Create Your Own Sleepyhead Story: Use your imagination to create a short story about a sleepyhead. Where does your sleepyhead like to sleep? What does it do before bedtime? Draw pictures to go along with your story and share it with your friends or family.

  3. Sleepyhead Observation: Next time you go outside, look for animals or insects that might be sleepyheads. Can you find a bird in a nest or a cat napping in the sun? Talk about where different animals like to sleep and why those places are good for them.
